Pre Order Left 4 Dead, Get Early Access to the Demo

Valve announced today the pre-order offer for Left 4 Dead. Those who pre-oder either the Xbox 360 or PC version of the game will get earlier access to the demo, which will feature single player and co-operative modes, supporting 1 to 4 player games. Below is the press release with the announcement:
PRE-ORDER LEFT 4 DEAD, PLAY THE DEMO FIRST

Xbox 360 and PC Pre-Order Includes 10% Savings Plus Advance Demo Access

October 28, 2008 -Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (Steam and Source), today announced a special promotion granting those who pre-order Left 4 Dead early access to the official demo.

Left 4 Dead is the new survival action game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games.

Early access to the demo begins Thursday, November 6 on both the Xbox 360(r) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PC. This pre-order promotion applies to all Steam PC pre-orders and all Xbox 360 and PC pre-orders from participating retailers in North America. The demo will feature single player and co-operative modes, supporting 1 to 4 player games.

On November 11 the demo will be made available to all Xbox 360 and PC and gamers, with no obligation to purchase. The demo concludes on November 18, when Left 4 Dead will be made available at retail outlets across North America and worldwide via Steam.

This pre-order promotion is scheduled in concert with the previously announced $10 million consumer launch campaign that spans television, outdoor, print, and online advertising.

"Every time someone plays Left 4 Dead, we witness the most overwhelmingly positive reaction that we've seen from any of our games," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "This gives us tremendous confidence in the product and why we've taken the game on the road, produced this pre-launch demo, and invested more advertising dollars on the title than any prior release from Valve."

Playable in single player, co-operative, and multiplayer modes, Left 4 Dead is one of the most anticipated releases of 2008 and winner of numerous pre-launch awards, including Best of E3 from multiple outlets.

Microsoft Planning Avatar Store for Next Spring

Robin Burrowes, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) product manager for Xbox LIVE, told VideoGamer.com at a recent hands-on preview event for the New Xbox Experience that the company plans to launch a dedicated store for the upcoming Xbox 360 Avatars.

With the release of The New Xbox Experience, the Xbox 360 will get their own Miis in the form of Avatars, customizable graphical representations of Xbox Live users tied to Xbox 360 profiles. At launch, there will be a bunch of accessories for these Avatars available free of charge, but in 2009 Microsoft plans to create a store where Xbox Live users will be able to buy new accesories

Burrowes said: "The plan of record will be to launch a more extensive Avatar Store from spring time onwards next year, and that store in theory would have branded content in there, game publisher IP stuff in there as well."

2K Sports Reveals New Soundtrack for NBA 2K9

2K Sports announced today t he full list of songs found in the music soundtrack for NBA 2K9. Below is the press release with the announcement:
2K Sports Reveals New Soundtrack for NBA® 2K9

The Cool Kids, Beastie Boys, The Pharcyde, N.E.R.D, Brand New Heavies, and DJ UNK headline NBA 2K9’s eclectic mix of artists

New York, NY – October 6, 2008 – 2K Sports, the sports publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today details regarding the music soundtrack for NBA 2K9, this season’s highly anticipated basketball title. Known for consistently tapping the freshest and most relevant artists for the NBA 2K franchise, this year’s soundtrack continues the tradition with an eclectic mix of artists. Standouts include N.E.R.D, Santogold, Gnarls Barkley, The Pharcyde, and Beastie Boys with an exclusive track by DJ UNK, along with an original recording by The Cool Kids titled “2K Pennies.” Beyond the soundtrack, 2K Sports continues to embrace its artists in a myriad of ways, including in-game characters, national tours, music videos, gameplay trailers, radio promotions, mix tapes, community promotions, music downloads and digital sales.

"Every year our NBA 2K soundtrack features music innovators that push boundaries in the same way our franchise does," said Tim Rosa, director of brand and lifestyle marketing at 2K Sports. “With NBA 2K9 we’re continuing the tradition with The Cool Kids representing our deepest music integration. They will appear in the game’s NBA Blacktop streetball mode, will perform on the 2K Sports Bounce Tour, and they recorded an original song which we’re giving away for free on the 2K Sports website.”

“Video games are an important part of culture and our lifestyle. For years we’ve been playing games, but have never been inspired by the songs in them,” said Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks of The Cool Kids. “When 2K Sports presented us with an opportunity to create an original song for NBA 2K9, we knew we had to create a song that embodied the sport of basketball. We had to make kids everywhere appreciate the song as much as the game.”

Along with special The Cool Kids integration, NBA 2K9 will include in-game character likenesses of other past and present 2K music artists including ?uestlove (from The Roots), DJ Steve Aoki, Aceyalone, the legendary Bobbito Garcia, and Phife Dawg (from A Tribe Called Quest).
