Skate 3 Lets You Hang Out with Your Friends

Electronic Arts and Black Box just released a new trailer showcasing the co-op aspects of Skate 3.

Utilizing some "realistic" dialogue and "real" players playing the game to perform the chit-chat, the video shows how players can meet up and join groups to shred some tricks around the city. But no matter the people demo-ing the game, it looks like a pretty slick jump-in jump-out feature.

Check out the Full HD video in our movies section.

Skate 3 is coming out in a few short weeks; it releases May 11th in the US and May 14th in the EU.

You guys excited for this one? The original Skate was tough for me to get into after a longstanding old-school Tony Hawk career. But this third entry's looking pretty good.

Check Out Halo Reach "Birth of a Spartan"

The new live-action short from director Noam Murro has hit the airwaves. In a sparse and futuristic world, the soldier destined to lead Noble Team gets injected to become a Spartan warrior.

The sixty second spot moves methodically through a simple scene, ending on a great shot of the soldier's face reflected back in the Spartan's Armor.

If you were wondering, it's not the same director that handled the ODST live-action campaign. That was Rupert Sanders. But despite the switch, I think their new direction was solidly executed. The CG looks smooth, the subtle glances tight, and the world believable. There should be an extended cut available soon, but for now check out this original entry into the Halo universe which is actually just advertising the upcoming Halo: Reach beta which starts on Monday.

IGN Scores a Samurai Shodown Sen Q & A

Martin Robinson, IGN UK, caught up with the SNK Playmore team and scored a quick interview. This time theu are covering topics such as the latest installment in the Samurai Shodown series, the genre itself, and of course.. the competition. Pop on over and check out the whole ,SNK Shodown: Samurai Shodown Sen Q & A, below is a quick teaser to wet your appetite:IGN: Despite the brief shot in the arm provided by Street Fighter IV, fighting games have yet to regain the popularity they enjoyed through the nineties. Why do you think this is?

SNK: First and foremost, due to transitions in gamers' tastes over the years and an ever changing market, it's quite difficult to compare the current state of the genre to that of the nineties. However, one possible factor could be the evolution of hardware, development technology, etc. leading to diversification in gameplay, and in turn gamers looking towards new game genres that appeal to them. However, with that in mind, we will continue our challenge within the genre, and do our best in living up to SNK's brand name and rich history of versus fighting games.

Movie Director Shares Project Natal Titles

IGN let us know that filmmaker James Gunn dropped some knowledge on a few games coming for Project Natal. Gunn attended the event "The Microsoft Experience." in Los Angeles that he later blogged about where he mentioned a new game he demoed called River Rush, which was yet to be announcement. He stated,"It's a game where you stand side by side in a river raft, so it's two people playing at once. To move right, you have to step right; to move left, you have to step left," he wrote. "...you have to jump up and slap floating stars in the air – the whole raft jumps up every time you do." Gunn's blog also went on to confirms a boxing and football title are in development but did not include any more details. I guess we have to wait until this years E3 to get the full lowdown on upcoming titles for Natal. What type of game would you like to see?

Haggar for Mayor Spots from Final Fight Double Impact

Say what you will about Final Fight: Double Impact, this week's XBLA release and combo of the original Final Fight and Magic Sword, but the new Mayoral Campaign videos featuring the bulky Mike Haggar make me chuckle.

Without actual words to prove his points, Mike Haggar just yells and smashes things to prove his point in these part machinima, part in-game clips. From hamburger rain to punching eagles, Haggar delivers.

They've released three videos so far, of a promised six. You can check them out right here in their entirety. The second half of each video is the same, but don't miss the openings.

Dead Rising 2 Coop Impressions

The guys at IGN had an opportunity last week to check out Capcom's Dead Rising 2 at Capcom's Captivate event. They had some playtime in Co-op mode for the next title in the series and shared their opinions. Go give it a read...Co-op so far is, well, basic. The lion's share of development work appears to have gone into getting the feature working rather than making it distinctive, and to that end, Dead Rising 2 appears to be mostly successful. All story progress belongs to the hosting player's game. The appeal for visiting players is in some ways reminiscent of a loot based RPG, where they can grind PP to level up their Chuck and build new weapons to bring back with them to their own game. The game's structure remains unchanged in co-op, with slight difficulty tweaks to speak of, but no other meaningful differences apparent.Read the Rest...

See the Sweat New MMA Movie

You saw the new screenshots on Friday, but this morning EA Sports released a new trailer showcasing the realistic depictions of their famous fighters, and the brutal action of the upcoming MMA.

The lighting effects look great and watching the video makes you want to hand the fighters a towel for the realistic sweat.

The video doesn't confirm if the trifecta of blood, sweat and tears comes into play, but the sweat is most definitely in full effect.

Fans of the genre should be getting excited for this upcoming release. The phenomena of MMA has blown up across the past few years and gaming needs something to reflect this.

New Dead Rising 2 Trailer

Capcom's annual media event Captivate just hit Hawaii and with it came a slew of new announcements and game information.

Among other screenshots, artwork and trailers, they've released a brand new Dead Rising 2 trailer which showcases some of the story elements surrounding the main character.

It barely shows any zombies, but fixing chainsaws to the bike and the addition of the main character's daughter keep the trailer interesting.

The original was a great time, though I never made it all the way through (and I couldn't read any text on my standard definition TV). Hopefully this sequel will be more user friendly.

Take a look at the new clip below:

Halo Reach Multiplayer Modes

The guys from 1UP spoke with Bungie's multiplayer designers Lars Bakken and Derek Carroll to hammer out the new modes we will see in Halo: Reach. Here is the breakdown:

Headhunter: This mode is similar to Oddball mode where players drop skulls when they die. The object is to grab as many as you can and drop them off in a deposit zone. It seems you can carry multiple skulls at a given time, but if you get fragged you drop them for others to pick up. Headhunter can be either played as a team game or free-for-all.

Stockpile: This mode is Halo's version of Capture the Flag. Flags points appear randomly across the map and the object is to grab them and return them to their capture points.

Generator Defense: This is the game mode which appears only for the Overlook map within the Beta. Basically it's Spartans pitted against Elites in 3 on 3 action. The Elites try to destroy generators that are defended by the Spartans.

Invasion: Looks like Bungie is tight lipped on this game mode, sorry.

Brand New Crackdown 2 Video Documentary

Ruffian Games and Microsoft Game Studios have just released a new video documentary showcasing some new aspects of Crackdown 2.

As a huge proponent of the original, I'm really looking forward to seeing the new game and getting to play in a redesigned sandbox. The original also had one of the few examples of truly innovate DLC that I liked, whereas I generally frown upon unnecessary additives. Nothing beats either the Harpoon Gun or the "Keys to the City."

In regards to the video itself, I must say developers are stepping up the game, as it uses some great green screen effects for the background chaos.

Some notable quotes include "the highest point in the city is now ridiculously higher than it ever was before," and "in the first game we went massively upwards, and in the second we've added an extra dimension and we're going down" (seems to indicate there is an underground component to the sequel). There's also a shot of two helicopters using some kind of tractor beam to lift a truck through the city. The co-op looks stellar.

New Lost Planet 2 Trailer

Lost Planet 2 arrives next month, and Capcom have just released the latest trailer to the game called "The Final Episode."

It features numerous more environments from the game, a slew of characters, a hint at the overall story, and an ending that I think makes the entire video worth it.

It clocks in at around five minutes and is quite a thing to buffer, but give it a look if you're curious at all about this third person co-op shooter.

I played the original four-player demo a few months back, against that slug beast, which was pretty fun, but this reveal shows off a lot more of what players will be up against.

The ending shots of the monsters versus the army are fantastic.

Extended Kane & Lynch 2 Trailer Drops

Kane & Lynch 2 has been doing some heavy promotional work these past few weeks, and this morning we have the extended "Welcome to Shanghai" trailer up.

It features 22 more seconds of in-game footage, cut in near the end of the original trailer. You can check out the extended cut in our movies section.

From everything I've seen, the developers have taken some interesting design choices by focusing on the shaky handheld feel of documentary filmmaking and home movies. By giving it this almost pixellated, amateur look, they're able to focus less on the graphics and (hopefully) more on the gameplay.

Time will tell as Kane & Lynch 2 marches toward its late August release date.

IGN Interview Beta Maps

IGN published a really informative interview with Chris Carney and Lars Bakken, Multiplayer Design Leads at Bungie, regarding the four multiplayer maps included in the beta.

IGN: Why did you choose these specific maps for inclusion in the beta?

Chris Carney: All four maps were chosen in order to test a specific selection of gametypes and team sizes. Sword Base and Powerhouse cover the Slayer, Headhunter, end of the spectrum, Overlook is perfect for the NT 1* ("Generator Defense") game type, and Boneyard is a great landscape custom built for Invasion. Each map brings unique elements that we want to evaluate and hopefully contain enough variety to be appealing for the duration of the Beta.

F.E.A.R. 3 Announcement Trailer

F.E.A.R. 3 is coming and Warner Bros. Interactive have released a live-action trailer to showcase the creepy nature of its third entry into the series.

It shows Alma on in operating room and her sons coming in to meet her, violence all over.

Some in-game footage is spliced in near the end, but the majority of this video is live action. Despite the canned screams that I've heard used time and time again in games and movies, the trailer still does a good job at being unsettling.

Take a look at the video now.

Kane & Lynch 2 Welcome to Shanghai

We didn't get a chance to post up the latest Kane & Lynch 2 trailer when it launched, but we didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to show it.

It's a nice HD version of the trailer clocking in at 56.9mb (sorry to those with slower connections). I dig the cinema verite camera work, as it gives a sense of reality to the cinematics. The look of the marketplace fight reminds me a lot of Stranglehold, though the gameplay is obviously different.

After all that surrounded the first game, how do you guys feel about the sequel so far?

A Mystery USB Drive Arrived Today

We have a little mystery on our hands. A plain manila envelope, with no return address, came to the IGN offices today with a single 1gig USB drive. The USB drive only contained two files; an MP3 audio file and a single text document file. The only hint as to where it came from is the postmark stamp from Maryland. Below is the information we have extracted.

A man in audio file reads out these letters:

MOD ZZZ JNQRYD3FRP

When viewing the audio file in MS Word, this code is printed:

The text document contains only these six words:

We have a good thread going on about this, drop by and share your thoughts.

You can get some pics and rough details on the Games Distillery site right now, but I'll pop the PR in here for your convenience.Frankfurt, Germany, April 7th 2010 – Today, the Slovak development studio Games Distillery officially announces that their upcoming naval shooter “AQUA” will be released in summer 2010 by Microsoft Game Studios on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system. “AQUA” is a stylish arcade-action shooter with numerous tactical elements, driven by an entertaining story with beautiful hand-drawn comic sequences. The thrilling campaign mode and various exciting multiplayer modes are on the top level of audio-visual presentation for the target platform. The game itself is presented in a fictional Imperial Victorian setting.

In “AQUA” the player will take control of an elite cruiser and steer into the middle of a raging naval war where masses of enemies and allies engage in real-time operations. Being attacked from above and below the water surface the player has to destroy masses of enemies’ troops to be victorious. By unlocking new ship-types, weapons and upgrades, the player will have the opportunity to enhance his ship and gear up for the next fight. Choosing from various tactics and forming special supporting squadrons, the player will also have the option to command offensive and defensive troops in order to overcome large enemy formations and defensive installations.

“We are proud that AQUA will be released by Microsoft Game Studios for Xbox LIVE® Arcade, as this underlines our philosophy to deliver products of excellent quality and with a distinguishing mark within their segment. With AQUA, we want to take the genre of dual-stick arcade shooters an evolutionary step forward and deliver a story driven gaming experience on the vanguard of audiovisual quality compared to available arcade titles”, Juergen Reusswig, CEO and Development Director at Games Distillery comments.

Two New Games on Demand

Somebody must have reached "F" in the Xbox 360 gaming library, as two new titles have hit Games on Demand in different regions this morning.

Fable II has dropped in all regions except for Japan, retailing for $19.99 and taking up 7gb of your precious cargo space.

Next up is Fallout 3, which has finally made its way to Europe, Asia and Australia (North America got it back in early March).

So you've now got more options available to take up space. Good thing USB flash support dropped at the same time.

Any takers? Seems like a lot of these Games on Demand age to the point where you can definitely find cheaper physical copies. But if you have the cash, you can't argue the ease of download.

Blur Beta Comes to Xbox 360 on April 6

In the latest episode of Kotaku Talk Radio, Gareth Wilson from Bizarre Creations revealed that Blur will be opening up its multiplayer beta to the greater Xbox Live community, hopefully by April 6th.

It will be a free download and users will be able to snag some track time against others online to test this upcoming racer.

This is an Xbox only event, so PC and PS3 users have to wait until the game's release to get a taste. For Bizarre, it was a matter of not spreading themselves too thin. They need to focus on finishing the game, and not just making sure the beta is up and running across multiple systems.

Mega Man 10 Arrives

Mega Man 10 has hit XBLA today, bringing old school charm (read: insane difficulty) and retro sensibilities.

Stepping in at 800 Microsoft Points ($10), it's a modern take on an old way of making games. Afterall, I found myself looking for a cartridge to blow on after Mega Man 9, this one should be no different.

I daresay 10 year old me was much better at these games though, and had more patience.

You can queue up the download from the Xbox Marketplace right now.
