Style Crafting: As you develop your style, the animation system will adapt to how you play, and the other riders on the mountain will emulate your moves! But doing tricks isn’t the only way to convey a sense of style. Thirty of the industry’s top gear manufacturers, clothing brands and international magazines have joined forced with Destineer and Absinthe to help you build your career. As your legend grows so will your stylistic choices.

January 2009 NPD Microsoft's Take

With Nintendo ruling both hardware and software charts in the first month of the year, Microsoft decided to use an old Sony tactic: compare to yourself a year ago.
January NPD - Xbox 360 Posts Record January Console and Online Growth; Xbox 360 Games Claim Half of Top 10 Spots

January NPD results are in and Xbox 360 highlights include:

Xbox 360 system sales hit 309,000, up 33 percent from a year earlier, as holiday momentum carries into 2009 Xbox 360 claimed five of the top 10 titles in January, with more top-rated games available than on any other system Single biggest month ever for Xbox LIVE as record number of new members joined in January; exclusive game add-ons extend blockbuster experiences

Xbox 360 kicked off 2009 with a bang, posting record system sales for January of 309,000 units (January NPD data), a 33 percent jump from a year earlier. Sales were driven by Xbox 360’s broad lineup of blockbuster video games, as well as Xbox LIVE, which saw more new members join than during any month in its history. The $199 Xbox 360 Arcade model also offers tremendous value for consumers looking to jump into next-generation interactive entertainment.

Games on Xbox 360

Xbox 360 games claimed five spots in the January top 10, including “Left 4 Dead,” “Call of Duty: World at War,” “Skate 2,” “Lord of the Rings: Conquest,” and “Gears of War 2” (January NPD data).

Sales of third-party games on Xbox 360 hit $139 million in January (January NPD data), with Xbox 360 generating more life-to-date sales at retail for third-party publishers than competing consoles. With 132 Xbox 360 titles rated 80 or higher on Metacritic, compared to 90 for PS3 and 42 for Wii (Metacritic data), it’s no wonder that Xbox 360 owners lead the industry in game purchases, having bought an average of 8.1 games each.

STAR WARS Is Top Toy License for 2008 As STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS Continues Hit Run

STAR WARS Holiday Sales for US Retailers Strongest In Over 30 Years;

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS TV Series Ranks #1 in Its Time Period With All Boys Demos Across All Television

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Driven by the popularity of the STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS animated television series, the Force remained strong in 2008 as STAR WARS catapulted to the Number 1 spot of all traditional toy licenses, according to The NPD Group, Inc., Lucasfilm Ltd. announced today. U.S. toy retail sales for the brand in 2008 exceeded $450M.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS was the single most popular licensed toy property in 2008 according to data released by the NPD Group. It was also, as a result, the top boys’ toy license of the year.

During the 2008 holiday season, U.S. retailers reported the strongest sales for STAR WARS toys and products in the 31 years since the first STAR WARS movie was released theatrically, even as the overall retail economy faced significant challenges.

Sales of STAR WARS video games also reached new heights in 2008, driven by the huge success of STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED. Following its release in September, STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASED became the fastest selling STAR WARS video game in history with sales now exceeding 5.7M units worldwide.

In addition, STAR WARS books topped the charts with 14 titles appearing on the New York Times best sellers list, with both STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED novelization, and STAR WARS: LEGACY OF THE FORCE: REVELATION, reaching the number one spot.

The smash-hit, animated STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS will return to Cartoon Network the fall of 2009 for a second season, continuing the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, and the heroic Jedi Knights.

The October 3, 2008 premiere of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS scored as the most-watched series debut in Cartoon Network history, according to Nielsen Media Research. Since its premiere, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS (Friday 9 p.m.) has ranked #1 in its time period on all television with boys 2-11, boys 6-11, and tween boys 9-14 through January 2009. It is also a worldwide hit, airing in 166 countries around the globe. Cartoon Network is scheduled to air the final first-season episode of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS at 9 p.m. Friday, March 20.

As the series has continued its popularity, the official STAR WARS website WWW.STARWARS.COM has seen a 30 percent jump in site traffic with millions of fans now viewing free full video episodes of the animated series, playing new STAR WARS games, reading the latest news and online web comic, or just watching some of the hundreds of exclusive STAR WARS fan films and videos on the site.

Produced by Lucasfilm Animation, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS features the voices of Matt Lanter (Heroes) as Anakin Skywalker, Ashley Eckstein (That’s So Raven) as Ahsoka Tano, James Arnold Taylor (Celebrity Deathmatch) as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Tom Kane (Wolverine & the X-Men) as Yoda.

Dave Filoni is the supervising director of the series and Cary Silver is producer. George Lucas serves as executive producer and creator of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS.

Guitar Hero World Tour Outsells Rock Band 2 TwoToOne

GameSpot Australia got a report from The NPD Group of combined U.S. sales for both Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2 across all platforms and SKUs and found out that the first full-band (drums, guitar/bass, and vocals) installment in Activision's billion-dollar franchise sold 3.4 million copies domestically, exactly twice as many as Rock Band 2's 1.7 million units. But is the unit sales comparison fair? From the article:

Besides being available in more retail configurations, Guitar Hero World Tour also went on sale on all platforms--the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3--on October 26. By contrast, Rock Band 2 rolled out onto its console on a staggered schedule, hitting the 360 on September 14, the PS3 October 19, and the Wii and PlayStation 2 on December 18. That means that only 13 days' worth of sales on the two latter platforms--which have the biggest installed bases in the US--were recorded by NPD.

Afro Samurai captures the essence of the anime and Afro’s character through its beautifully portrayed environments and characters drawn using dynamic cross-hatching visuals to give the game a pen and ink hand-drawn look, with Samuel L. Jackson once again providing the voice for Afro. The innovative combat system gives Afro the ability to dismember enemies with ease. Sequel to the 2004 hit title, Shellshock: Nam ’67 ™, Blood Trails pits players against a war unlike any they have seen before. Taking the first-person war game and turning it on its head, players will experience a conflict where fear takes on a whole new meaning.

At the height of the Vietnam War, a covert ops cargo plane carrying a top-secret consignment known only as ‘Whiteknight’ is lost over the deepest, uncharted jungles. Special Ops soldiers are immediately dispatched to the scene to retrieve the top secret shipment and one-by-one they disappear without a trace… until one month later, one of them suddenly walks out of the jungle.

This is a war where your enemy doesn’t just want you dead… it wants to rip you to pieces,” said Lee Singleton, General Manager of Eidos Games Studios. “As the infected turn one-by-one, your instinct to fight becomes an instinct for flight, to leave the real horror of this war far behind.”
