Quake Arena Arcade Drops into the Marketplace

Deathmatch is something of a staple in today's multiplayer arena. With players handed guns left and right for various virtual tasks, the idea of wiping out another team of real opponents is something most players aren't a stranger to. But this wasn't always the case.

It took trailblazing original games to make this game type such a staple and today we're getting one such game back into the marketplace to relive the glory days of simply killing one another.

Quake Arena Arcade has hit the Xbox Live Marketplace for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15). The game features over thirty classic maps as well as twelve that are exclusive to Xbox Live. Matches stack up to 16 players at a time and the download even features a brand new single player campaign.

The other two game modes outside of Deathmatch are Capture the Flag and Harvester.

Here's the marketplace link for the game if you're interested in adding it to your library.

Ghostbusters Sanctum of Slime in Action

Atari, Sony and Wanako Studios are taking the Ghostbusters world and bringing it to the downloadable marketplace early next year.

As a sequel to 2009's Ghostbusters: The Video Game , this new title, called Sanctum of Slime shakes up a lot of elements of its predecessor. First of all you're not going to find any familiar faces from the original game or film in it. This new adventure focuses solely on a group of rookies finding their way in this haunted world.

Next up the game shifts to a top-down viewpoint much like the recent Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light . This fast-paced game is for up to four players both locally and online and from the looks of everything so far might just be a lot of fun.

So without further ado, check out the debut trailer of Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime which is due for release in Spring 2011:

Operation Flashpoint Red River Trailer

Codemasters today revealed the teaser trailer for Operation Flashpoint: Red River, the all-new chapter in the tactical shooter series coming Q2 2011. Now showing at www.facebook.com/flashpointredriver, the live action video features Johnny Cash’s classic ‘The Man Comes Around’ and sets the tone for the game. The Facebook page will also deliver briefings straight from the Studio along with news on the forthcoming gameplay reveal video, due next week.

Today’s teaser trailer reveals the creative direction for Operation Flashpoint: Red River. Taking viewers to the new setting of Tajikistan, two CH 53E Super Stallion helicopters carrying US Marines swoop along the Vakhsh River, showing the beautiful and epic landscapes which will become bloody battlegrounds in a deadly flashpoint. As one Marine films the unfolding action on his digital video camera, hostiles attack the helicopters, forcing evasive action and return fire from the rear gunners.

Inside the transports, the full fireteam – Grenadier, Scout, Rifleman and Automatic Rifleman – prepare for combat. Wearing battle-worn kit with field modifications, the Marines go through their own personal routine – checking weapons are locked and loaded, praying with Rosary beads or listening to music on their MP3 player. Every Marine gets ready for war their own way. The video concludes as the fireteam are inserted into the combat zone. For the Marines, this flashpoint is about to turn hot.

“Our goal is to take gamers as close to the experience of being a US Marine as possible, in both single-player and co-op,” said Sion Lenton, Creative Director, Operation Flashpoint: Red River. “From the tactics Marines use to the weapons they deploy and even the way that they interact with each other, this objective is core to everything that goes in the game. It’s this laser focus that ensures Red River will stand apart from tired corridor shooters and immerse players in a rewarding, tactical theatre of war.”

Breach Pulls the Trigger

Atomic Games, a developer of simulations for US military and intelligence agencies and a pioneer in military action games, is getting ready to show off the firepower that players will use to crush their opponents.  All of these weapons will be available when Breach comes out in early 2011 for Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Every real-world weapon in Breach has its own physics baked into the engine to provide combat authenticity.  Each weapon is a true replica of what is used every day on the battlefield by both the US and the opposition, including many weapons not included in other shooters, which have been licensed by their manufacturers for use in Breach. These weapons can also be outfitted with attachments such as scopes and suppressors.  With each caliber firing from each weapon differently, and destroying cover as it would in real life, survival depends on knowing the right weapon to use in every situation.

Breach introduces weapons that are rarely, if ever, seen in other games such as the IAR, the Infantry Automatic Rifle, is the future weapon of the automatic rifleman. Designed to improve maneuverability and speed, it is set to replace the M240 as the default light machine gun of the USMC.  For those looking for closer firepower the Saiga-12 is a semi-automatic shotgun, which allows users to fire multiple shotgun rounds without manually reloading. Based on the AK platform, it is extremely reliable and can be customized with a wide variety of optics.

As a first of its kind, the Adaptive Combat Rifle redefines modularity, can fire multiple calibers with a quick change, and has a free-floating top rail for accuracy and to mount a variety of optics.    For those looking for long range, the TPG-1 is a modular high precision rifle designed for special military and law enforcement operations. It uses a box magazine feed system and has a rail system that allows for multiple optic configurations.

The first downloadable episode for The Force Unleashed II will take place on the moons of endor. This extra chapter actually takes place during the evens of Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi. The new add-on will bring new achievements to Force Unleashed II. DLC for the first game such as the ‘Jedi Temple’ pack added 250 gamer score and was priced at 800 MSP ($10 USD.)

ZeniMax Media, the owner of Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, Arkane Studios and Tango Gameworks has just picked up another development studio to add to their burgeoning family.

The latest acquisition is MachineGames. You probably haven't heard of MachineGames, but it was started by the founders of Starbreeze Studios, who you probably have heard mentioned before. Starbreeze created The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher’s Bay and The Darkness .

Microsoft Launches Suit Against Motorola

Microsoft has launched a lawsuit against handset manufacturer/wireless company Motorola over shared patented technology as used in the Xbox 360. Microsoft claims that Motorola’s patents for video decoding and 802.11G/N wireless connectivity have entered Microsoft’s “shared pool” of technologies licensed from other companies.

In the end the suit comes down to the amount of money Microsoft owes Motorola for the use of the wireless technologies in the Xbox 360. The Xbox isn’t the only product affected – some of Motorola’s patents affect the recently launched Windows Phone 7.

Should this case be resolved or affect the Xbox community we will bring it you here on TeamXbox.com.

L.A. Noire's First Official Trailer Hits on Thursday

The announcement that a trailer is coming isn't always that exciting. But then again when Rockstar is finally ready to show off more about their mysterious Los Angeles-based detective story L.A. Noire , it's at least worth paying attention to.

So with most headlines being dedicated to Black Ops this week, Rockstar Games has announced that on Thursday, November 11th at 12pm Eastern (that's 9am out here on the West Coast), the first official trailer for the game will be hitting the online airwaves.

While the title was once a PS3 exclusive, reports from last February seem to indicate that this isn't the case. We'll have to wait until Thursday to know for sure.

L.A. Noire doesn't even have its own official site yet, so this reveal should shed some new light on the experience.

We'll nab a copy of the trailer as soon as possible to show everyone.

While the jury is still out on how Kinect plays, Microsoft has announced that they're donating over 4,000 of them to Boys & Girls Clubs all over the United States. This will give the new motion-control exposure to millions of kids who may otherwise never even see one in use.

Along with the device itself, the two launch titles Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures will be given out as well.

Microsoft has been a long time supporter of the Club with over $150 million in donations before this event.

Today Ubisoft announces that Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood for the Xbox 360  has gone gold and will be available at retailers in North America on November 16, 2010.

The critically acclaimed single-player experience of Assassin’s Creed is back and better than ever as Ezio returns for an epic struggle against the powerful Templar Order. Offering more single-player gameplay than Assassin’s Creed II, players now play as a legendary Master Assassin, and journey into Italy’s greatest city, Rome, center of power, greed and corruption to strike at the heart of the enemy.

For the first time in the franchise’s history, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood offers never-before-seen multiplayer, awarded “Best Multiplayer Game,” by the prestigious Game Critics organization, at e3 2010. Players will have the opportunity to experience things from the Templar’s perspective when they step into the shoes of an elite Abstergo agent, hand-picked to undergo training in order to better fight the Assassins. Players can choose from a wide range of unique characters, each with their own signature weapons and assassination techniques, and match their skills against other players from all over the world in different game modes. The multiplayer suite coupled with an extensive single-player campaign makes Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood not only the best Assassin’s experience to date, but the best value as well.

“Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is the largest and most ambitious title we have ever created,” said Sebastien Puel, executive producer at Ubisoft Montreal. “Not only will players get a fully robust and upgraded single-player game that is larger than Assassin’s Creed II, but an award winning multiplayer component as well. Brotherhood is the biggest Assassin’s experience we have ever created.”

Tisto and Activision Continuing the Collaboration

In an exciting first for the music and videogame industries, Activision Publishing, Inc.’s DJ Hero 2 and superstar DJ and Producer Tiësto (Facebook Profile) have joined forces to deliver the first ever music video comprised entirely of videogame footage. Having delivered two exclusive mixes to the best soundtrack in entertainment, Tiësto’s globally recognizable in-game likeness from the critically acclaimed DJ Hero 2 is the feature attraction in the brand new “Speed Rail” music video:

"I'm having a lot of fun playing myself in DJ Hero 2!” says Tiësto “I originally wrote "Speed Rail" for the video game and then started playing the track at my shows. The music video idea came together after I asked Activision to cut together some footage of my character in the game to play on the large video screens I use on tour. The fan reaction has been amazing, so I decided to go a step further and make it the official "Speed Rail" music video. It looks really cool!”

“Tiësto has been a great partner on DJ Hero 2, appearing in-game, creating exclusive mixes for the soundtrack and acting as a brand ambassador,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs, Activision. “Creating the world’s first ever music video with videogame footage further proves the groundbreaking ways that we’re collaborating with the biggest artists in the world.”

Hailed in reviews as “brilliant stuff” and “a joy” DJ Hero 2 is the ultimate mixer of music and friends delivering the definitive way for players to come together and party with a host of new multiplayer modes – including DJ Battles that pit DJ against DJ in mixes produced specifically for battle gameplay – and inviting vocalists into the spotlight with integrated on-screen singing and rapping of lyrics and rhymes while bringing the party to life with jump-in/jump-out Party Play gameplay. Featuring the biggest dance, pop and hip-hop hits by the hottest artists everyone knows and loves remixed by world-class DJ’s in an all-new way, the game’s soundtrack delivers 83 unique creations only available in DJ Hero 2. Further immersing players into the music, the game offers a heightened level of creative input and allows everyone to add their own touch, directly impacting the beats they’re spinning with freestyle scratching, cross-fading and sampling. The game also features an all-new career-based Empire Mode where players start out as an up-and-coming DJ on the road to becoming the head of a major entertainment empire, all of which is founded solely on their success as a DJ.

Breach Hardcore Mode Detailed

Atomic Games, a developer of simulations for US military and intelligence agencies, announced today the details of Hardcore Mode in Breach for the Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360. Breach’s Hardcore Mode promises players the opportunity to test themselves and their tactics in an FPS like never before all in a title that costs less than £20.00.

When Atomic first showed off Breach to gamers, the game's realism caused some organizations that use other Atomic training systems to show interest in using a modified version of Breach as a training aid for their operatives. Since Breach was made from the beginning to offer new kinds of authenticity not available in other shooters, adding in a sim-like HardCore Mode for both operatives and gamers was not difficult. Between its robust destruction and active cover technologies, it can simulate aspects of urban warfare better than any other multiplayer title. Add in its ability to simulate small arms fire, including range, velocity and caliber, and its purpose is clear.

Breach, unlike any other current game, is about using cover and denying its use to the enemy, allowing for the true element of surprise and the ability to use real world tactics in a virtual environment. When players use the new Hardcore Mode in conjunction with the Sole Survivor game type, they will be able to experience Breach similar to the way real world Operators will as they train. Some of the components of Hardcore Mode are listed below,

Hardcore Mode:

New "Sole Survivor" Game Type: Each player is given only one life and no re-spawns, causing them to move and shoot with far more care and precision in this Team Deathmatch-like competition.Minimal HUD experience – Aiming reticule and other items turned off, while certain other items are left in as real life affords greater situational awareness.Disabling of Mini-Map radar system - removes the ability to use the radar to track enemy and friendly forces, players must be more aware of their surroundings.Disabling of ammo counter and weapon fire-mode display.Disabling of Kill Cam system: No longer gives you a hint about the person who killed you or where they were located, keeping your effective kill locations hidden.Modified Damage Settings creating a more lethal experience: More realistic damage from all weapons, making direct fire fights highly lethal. Use cover to gain the upper hand.Hardcore mode can be applied to any of the existing maps and Game types: Creating a unique twist for the serious gamers across the board.Filter match searchers by normal or hardcore to match your play style

Crysis 2 Multiplayer Beta Begins On Xbox 360

Crytek and EA’s upcoming futuristic first person shooter Crysis 2 has entered a closed invite only beta exclusively on the Xbox 360 this week. The beta is reportedly an early test of Crysis 2’s multiplayer component and it may expand to other platforms as EA/Crytek collect more data. Invitations for the closed beta were sent to Crysis fans who signed up at the exclusive website back in June.

Crysis 2 takes place in a ruined New York City which is under alien attack in the year 2023. Announcing Evil DPad

The holiday season is approaching quickly and gamers are getting ready to wait in line for their favorite releases. Halo: Reach has flown off store shelves and we imagine the same will happen with Call of Duty: Black Ops. As a result, gamers will need high-performance controllers with the reliability that matches their skill set. Evil Controllers has created a controller for them.

Evil Controllers are proud to announce their new product, the Evil D-Pad. For almost 5 years Microsoft has left gamers with an impotent directional pad. A D-Pad so worthless most gamers stopped using it altogether (unless they had to), but that didn't mean game designers had. At Evil Controllers the mad scientists have made their decision to step up to the plate. While Adam Coe is running the show, he's still a serious gamer and he says, “You know, there isn't anything more frustrating then losing a match because the controller didn't respond correctly, and it's funny, because the solution for this kind of problem is so simple.”

From then on Evil Controllers was on a mission, and their redesign promises that all of your inputs are 100% accurate. This controller modification transforms the D-Pad to the core of what it is. 4 buttons. The simplicity of it's design allows gamers to avoid errors made using the traditional axis D-pad to ensure only their intended inputs are registered.

For over two decades gamers have been using these axis D-Pads complacently, but the Xbox 360's D-pad really displays the error of its design. The problem with these pads are that they've got one big button to push four separate ones. As a result, a gamer's accuracy hasn't rested solely in their hands, but in the design of their controller. By removing the axis that typically connects the 4 directional inputs, Evil Controllers has designed a new controller that is truly a new way to play. One that removes calculated risks, and uncalculated errors.

No more accidental gun swaps, no more accidental leaps in Street Fighter, no more accidents. Period. With this controller your accuracy is fully rewarded. The Evil D-Pad uses point to point player contact with the benefit of absolute precision. When it comes to serious gaming and serious competition you'd be a ridiculous competitor to consider playing without one.

The Evil D-Pad removes all of the random elements from the player's game while increasing functionality across the board. The Evil D-Pad is incredible for first and third-Person shooters, allowing basic maneuvers to be pulled off flawlessly every time. In fighting games the Evil D-Pad's design works as it should, diagonals are activated by pressing two directional buttons at the same time, and thanks to absence of the axis design, player's precise inputs will be rewarded with accurate outcomes every time. While the Evil Ambassadors (our interns) can't agree on everything, there is one thing they all believe unanimously, “Shoryukens have never been easier.”

You can find our Evil D-Pads at EvilControllers.com and bare witness to the most reliable and most accurate controllers in the industry.

Konami Announces 'X Men The Arcade Game' For XBLA

At the New York Comic Con Marvel and Konami jointly announced that they will be releasing X Men The Arcade Game on XBLA sometime in 2011. For the uninformed X Men The Arcade Game was a 1992 beat-em up that allowed up to six friends to take on the roles of various X Men in their battle to take down Magneto. Each character has a special “mutant ability” that would clear all of the enemies on a single screen.

Players are able to choose between Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler or Dazzler. All of the original art assets and cheesy voice acting are being carried over from the original arcade title. New additions include the ability to play the Japanese version of the game and online co-operative play for up to six people.

As more information is available on X Men The Arcade Game we will be sure to bring it to you.

Medal of Honor Scores at Retails

Electronic Arts today announced great Medal of Honor day one sales and that the game is well in position for an outstanding holiday. Co-developed by EA’s Danger Close Studio in Los Angeles and DICE in Stockholm, Medal of Honor launched yesterday with strong momentum and early internal indicators show that the game is off to a great commercial start. In the U.S., retail response has been overwhelmingly positive with midnight launch events at nearly all Gamestop locations nationwide and with major mass merchandising retail chains already exceeding their Day 1 forecasts.

“We anticipate Medal of Honor to be one of the biggest video game titles launched this year,” said Bob McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at GameStop. “This underscores how video gaming has emerged as mainstream entertainment.”

Medal of Honor is set to ship this Friday in the UK and the rest of Europe, and has already earned massive acclaim amongst some of the world’s toughest critics. Zoo Magazine gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 while Gamesmaster scored it at 85% stating that it is “more realistic than Call of Duty”; ComputerAndVideogames.com scored it an 85 and hailed it, “an engrossing online shooter” and Eurogamer scored Medal of Honor an 8 out of 10 calling it “compelling and enjoyable”.

For the first time in its 11-year history, Medal of Honor leaves the WWII theatre and enters the modern setting of war-torn Afghanistan. The game is told through the lens of a small band of fictional characters within the real-life Tier 1 Operators, a relatively unknown instrument of the U.S. Military. Tier 1 Operators function under the National Command Authority to take on missions so dangerous, so specialized, they require an elite level of soldier. The unparalleled authenticity and realism in the Medal of Honor single player campaign is supported by a multiplayer mode awarded “Best Multiplayer of E3 2010” by GameSpy, with its dedicated servers and full feature set developed by DICE, delivering one of the most seamless online experiences of the year.
