Microsoft Launches Suit Against Motorola

Microsoft has launched a lawsuit against handset manufacturer/wireless company Motorola over shared patented technology as used in the Xbox 360. Microsoft claims that Motorola’s patents for video decoding and 802.11G/N wireless connectivity have entered Microsoft’s “shared pool” of technologies licensed from other companies.

In the end the suit comes down to the amount of money Microsoft owes Motorola for the use of the wireless technologies in the Xbox 360. The Xbox isn’t the only product affected – some of Motorola’s patents affect the recently launched Windows Phone 7.

Should this case be resolved or affect the Xbox community we will bring it you here on TeamXbox.com.
