Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Demo This Week

Criterion Games today announced a demo for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. This demo will give gamers early access to this holiday’s hottest action racing title. Starting October 26 for a limited time, players can experience the intensity of friendly competition, using Need for Speed’s revolutionary social network, Autolog. This new in-game technology makes personalized recommendations to gamers based on what their friends have been playing. Autolog is a brilliantly simple feature that challenges each player to set the best race time amongst their friends. Play alone and reign supreme against the game’s AI or invite just one friend to join, and unlock a second track in the demo. Playing with friends or frenemies, players kick off an addictive competitive loop where the compulsion to be the best and earn bragging rights is irresistible.

In the Need for Speed Hot Pursuit demo, players will be able to chase as a cop in the Dark Horse Hot Pursuit event, speeding through the coastal highway and mountainous ridges of Seacrest County. At the heart of the demo is a social network called Autolog that tracks cop and racer performances while playing solo and uses those statistics to generate fierce competition between friends. Once players add a friend to their Need for Speed friends list, the second event will unlock called Roadster’s Reborn, where gamers can compete as racers to set the best times. When they download and play the demo they will also earn 500 bounty award points in the full game for both Cop and Racer careers**. Accruing bounty will allow players to unlock events and exotic cars and progress through their careers in the full game.

The Need for Speed Hot Pursuit demo will be available for download October 26 on Xbox LIVE.

Breach Hardcore Mode Detailed

Atomic Games, a developer of simulations for US military and intelligence agencies, announced today the details of Hardcore Mode in Breach for the Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360. Breach’s Hardcore Mode promises players the opportunity to test themselves and their tactics in an FPS like never before all in a title that costs less than £20.00.

When Atomic first showed off Breach to gamers, the game's realism caused some organizations that use other Atomic training systems to show interest in using a modified version of Breach as a training aid for their operatives. Since Breach was made from the beginning to offer new kinds of authenticity not available in other shooters, adding in a sim-like HardCore Mode for both operatives and gamers was not difficult. Between its robust destruction and active cover technologies, it can simulate aspects of urban warfare better than any other multiplayer title. Add in its ability to simulate small arms fire, including range, velocity and caliber, and its purpose is clear.

Breach, unlike any other current game, is about using cover and denying its use to the enemy, allowing for the true element of surprise and the ability to use real world tactics in a virtual environment. When players use the new Hardcore Mode in conjunction with the Sole Survivor game type, they will be able to experience Breach similar to the way real world Operators will as they train. Some of the components of Hardcore Mode are listed below,

Hardcore Mode:

New "Sole Survivor" Game Type: Each player is given only one life and no re-spawns, causing them to move and shoot with far more care and precision in this Team Deathmatch-like competition.Minimal HUD experience – Aiming reticule and other items turned off, while certain other items are left in as real life affords greater situational awareness.Disabling of Mini-Map radar system - removes the ability to use the radar to track enemy and friendly forces, players must be more aware of their surroundings.Disabling of ammo counter and weapon fire-mode display.Disabling of Kill Cam system: No longer gives you a hint about the person who killed you or where they were located, keeping your effective kill locations hidden.Modified Damage Settings creating a more lethal experience: More realistic damage from all weapons, making direct fire fights highly lethal. Use cover to gain the upper hand.Hardcore mode can be applied to any of the existing maps and Game types: Creating a unique twist for the serious gamers across the board.Filter match searchers by normal or hardcore to match your play style

“Fantastic Pets offers an incredibly high level of interactivity, creativity and originality,” said Martin Good, Executive Vice President, THQ Kids, Family, Casual Games, and Global Online Services. “As you discover your pet’s personality and become enmeshed within the world, Fantastic Pets becomes more like a personalized adventure and less like a game.”

Announcing Evil DPad

The holiday season is approaching quickly and gamers are getting ready to wait in line for their favorite releases. Halo: Reach has flown off store shelves and we imagine the same will happen with Call of Duty: Black Ops. As a result, gamers will need high-performance controllers with the reliability that matches their skill set. Evil Controllers has created a controller for them.

Evil Controllers are proud to announce their new product, the Evil D-Pad. For almost 5 years Microsoft has left gamers with an impotent directional pad. A D-Pad so worthless most gamers stopped using it altogether (unless they had to), but that didn't mean game designers had. At Evil Controllers the mad scientists have made their decision to step up to the plate. While Adam Coe is running the show, he's still a serious gamer and he says, “You know, there isn't anything more frustrating then losing a match because the controller didn't respond correctly, and it's funny, because the solution for this kind of problem is so simple.”

From then on Evil Controllers was on a mission, and their redesign promises that all of your inputs are 100% accurate. This controller modification transforms the D-Pad to the core of what it is. 4 buttons. The simplicity of it's design allows gamers to avoid errors made using the traditional axis D-pad to ensure only their intended inputs are registered.

For over two decades gamers have been using these axis D-Pads complacently, but the Xbox 360's D-pad really displays the error of its design. The problem with these pads are that they've got one big button to push four separate ones. As a result, a gamer's accuracy hasn't rested solely in their hands, but in the design of their controller. By removing the axis that typically connects the 4 directional inputs, Evil Controllers has designed a new controller that is truly a new way to play. One that removes calculated risks, and uncalculated errors.

No more accidental gun swaps, no more accidental leaps in Street Fighter, no more accidents. Period. With this controller your accuracy is fully rewarded. The Evil D-Pad uses point to point player contact with the benefit of absolute precision. When it comes to serious gaming and serious competition you'd be a ridiculous competitor to consider playing without one.

The Evil D-Pad removes all of the random elements from the player's game while increasing functionality across the board. The Evil D-Pad is incredible for first and third-Person shooters, allowing basic maneuvers to be pulled off flawlessly every time. In fighting games the Evil D-Pad's design works as it should, diagonals are activated by pressing two directional buttons at the same time, and thanks to absence of the axis design, player's precise inputs will be rewarded with accurate outcomes every time. While the Evil Ambassadors (our interns) can't agree on everything, there is one thing they all believe unanimously, “Shoryukens have never been easier.”

You can find our Evil D-Pads at EvilControllers.com and bare witness to the most reliable and most accurate controllers in the industry.

Konami Announces 'X Men The Arcade Game' For XBLA

At the New York Comic Con Marvel and Konami jointly announced that they will be releasing X Men The Arcade Game on XBLA sometime in 2011. For the uninformed X Men The Arcade Game was a 1992 beat-em up that allowed up to six friends to take on the roles of various X Men in their battle to take down Magneto. Each character has a special “mutant ability” that would clear all of the enemies on a single screen.

Players are able to choose between Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler or Dazzler. All of the original art assets and cheesy voice acting are being carried over from the original arcade title. New additions include the ability to play the Japanese version of the game and online co-operative play for up to six people.

Medal of Honor Scores at Retails

Electronic Arts today announced great Medal of Honor day one sales and that the game is well in position for an outstanding holiday. Co-developed by EA’s Danger Close Studio in Los Angeles and DICE in Stockholm, Medal of Honor launched yesterday with strong momentum and early internal indicators show that the game is off to a great commercial start. In the U.S., retail response has been overwhelmingly positive with midnight launch events at nearly all Gamestop locations nationwide and with major mass merchandising retail chains already exceeding their Day 1 forecasts.

“We anticipate Medal of Honor to be one of the biggest video game titles launched this year,” said Bob McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at GameStop. “This underscores how video gaming has emerged as mainstream entertainment.”

Medal of Honor is set to ship this Friday in the UK and the rest of Europe, and has already earned massive acclaim amongst some of the world’s toughest critics. Zoo Magazine gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 while Gamesmaster scored it at 85% stating that it is “more realistic than Call of Duty”; ComputerAndVideogames.com scored it an 85 and hailed it, “an engrossing online shooter” and Eurogamer scored Medal of Honor an 8 out of 10 calling it “compelling and enjoyable”.

For the first time in its 11-year history, Medal of Honor leaves the WWII theatre and enters the modern setting of war-torn Afghanistan. The game is told through the lens of a small band of fictional characters within the real-life Tier 1 Operators, a relatively unknown instrument of the U.S. Military. Tier 1 Operators function under the National Command Authority to take on missions so dangerous, so specialized, they require an elite level of soldier. The unparalleled authenticity and realism in the Medal of Honor single player campaign is supported by a multiplayer mode awarded “Best Multiplayer of E3 2010” by GameSpy, with its dedicated servers and full feature set developed by DICE, delivering one of the most seamless online experiences of the year.

ID Software’s long awaited port of Quake III Arena for the Xbox Live Arcade could be ready to deploy in the coming months. The Australian Ratings Board recently rated the game on their website. The game earned a rating of 15+. It is not uncommon for new games to be revealed through ratings systems such as the ESRB or Australian Ratings Board.

Quake Arena Arcade features over 35 maps which include new creations and classic maps taken from the original Quake III Arena and its expansion Team Arena. The gameplay is slowed down a bit to compensate due to use of a controller versus a keyboard and mouse. The last time a playable version of Quake Arena Arcade was shown to the public/press was ay the Penny Arcade Expo in 2009.

Director Steven Spielberg Courting The Halo Franchise?

Could the mind behind Jurassic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T tackle the Halo universe on the big screen? According to the New York Magazine director Steven Spielberg and production company Dreamworks SKG could be seeking the rights to the Halo Franchise.

Spelberg wouldn’t be the first big director to tackle the transition of the Halo franchise to the silver screen. Neil Blompkamp and Peter Jackson attempted to put the game to film with little success. Eventually the project fell apart after only a few live action shorts promoting Halo 3 were produced.

If the report from the New York Magazine is to be believed than Dreamworks is interested in building a movie around the scenarios and cannon established in the Halo novels. No comments have been made by any of the parties involved with this potential Halo film.

MySims SkyHeroes Bring Online Multiplayer to Franchise

EA Play today announced the launch of MySims SkyHeroes, a high flying action adventure game that brings cooperative gameplay missions and multiplayer online action to the MySimsTM franchise. The title is available in high definition for the Xbox 360.

“MySims SkyHeroes strikes the right balance for players of all skill levels with three levels of difficulty, making it an ideal game for everyone from fathers and sons to play together, to hardcore gaming fans looking for high-speed aerial maneuvers, boss battles and multiplayer action,” said Scott Evans, General Manager of the The SimsTM Studio. “This makes the game a must-have for any gamer this holiday season, especially as the MySims franchise expands to new platforms to bring even more fans into the fold.”

Players begin the game as a pilot who has crash landed on an island, waking up with amnesia. He joins a group of fellow stranded pilots in a quest to take down the villain Morcubus, who is doing everything in his power to prevent anyone from flying in an attempt to rule the skies.

MySims SkyHeroes pilots jump right into the action in Single Player Campaign mode, flying through 42 different missions over 12 vastly different environments as they gather power-ups and assorted unlockable upgrades while trying to rack up the best score along the way. With each accomplished mission, the player becomes an increasingly high profile and feared hero by defeating deadly enemies, testing his mettle in high-speed challenges, or facing down huge bosses. While progressing through the game, players use power-ups such as radar jammers and giant laser attachments to temporarily punish the enemy. They can also use unlockable elements to customize their planes and outwit foes. For instance, players can swap in a new engine or upgrade wings to create a faster, more nimble aircraft; paint and detail planes to blend and disappear into the environment to evade combatants; or upgrade weapons as well as the pilot himself with new facial features and hats. The customization combinations are endless, which is part of the MySims SkyHeroes strategy and fun.

Branching storylines also keep MySims SkyHeroes interesting at every looping turn. For example, if a player is engaged in a mission that has him facing off with a difficult boss, he can temporarily leave the battle to rescue a fellow MySims character who may be able to assist in the battle against that boss.

MySims SkyHeroes also offers two Quick Play modes -- Dogfighting and Racing. Dogfighting allows players to challenge foes in dangerous aerial maneuvers like barrel rolls and loops against a cityscape backdrop or a lush tropical paradise, complete with an active volcano. The Racing mode tests a player’s twitch reflexes during high-speed solo or team challenges. Both styles ratchet up the adrenaline when players click into online multiplayer action allowing up to 10 players on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, six on the Wii or four on the Nintendo DS. The game becomes even more riveting by viewing the action in local split-screen format on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 33, allowing players to team up in co-op play against eight AI opponents, or go head-to-head against each other in competitive play.

Gears of War 3 Delayed Until Fall 2011

Microsoft issued a statement today regarding the release date of Gears of War 3. The title was originally slotted for an April 2011 release but is now expected sometime in the fall of 2011. There is reason to believe that delay is related to marketing rather than production related delays. Microsoft wants to position the title as “the biggest entertainment launch of 2011”.

In the last three years Microsoft has launched three Halo titles as their main fall exclusive. With Bungie’s last Halo game now released it is unknown how 343 Industeries will handle the series. It is speculation at this point what has caused this delay.

We will have more information about the release of Gears of War 3 as it becomes available.

Hollywood Delivers the Art of Drama and Humour in Fable III

It takes a village, so goes the popular adage, and never has this been truer than in “Fable III.” As you embark on your own revolution to seize the throne from an evil tyrant in “Fable III,” starting on 29th October exclusively on Xbox 360, you’ll be flanked by a supporting cast that features some of Hollywood’s most renowned talent, with film accomplishments that include “Monty Python,” “Star Trek,” “Harry Potter,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Alice in Wonderland,” and the upcoming “X-Men: First Class.”

Available today, the latest installment to the popular “Inside Lionhead” video documentary series features the talented cast, including Sir Ben Kingsley, Michael Fassbender, Simon Pegg and more, as they reflect on their experiences working on “Fable III.” From topics such as Sir Ben Kingsley picking up a Welsh accent to how Michael Fassbender prepared to take on a villain’s role in his first video game voiceover project, watch what happens when the star-studded cast applies their craft to “Fable III,” this October’s most anticipated title.

“The ‘Fable’ franchise has always been recognized for its unique take on drama, morality, and of course, humor,” said Louise Copley, head of the “Fable” franchise. “We’re taking this to the limits in ‘Fable III’ by bringing on a star-studded cast that includes Sir Ben Kingsley, John Cleese and Simon Pegg, who truly understand what it takes to bring characters to life in complex ways and add new dimensions of blockbuster entertainment to ‘Fable III.’”

“This is my first experience voicing a video game, so what drew me to it was the team, how committed they are, how well organized everything is and how beautiful the game is,” said Sir Ben Kingsley in the video documentary. “One of the things that’s missing from a lot of video games is good writing and good voice work. I think this one has a wonderful mythology and it’s witty and it’s engrossing,” added Simon Pegg in the video documentary.

Interact with these critically acclaimed actors in “Fable III” like never before. Talk politics with Sir Ben Kingsley, dish over the latest fashions with John Cleese or stir up trouble with Simon Pegg, all while plotting to bring the tyrannical King Logan – voiced by Michael Fassbender – to his knees. The Fable III voice-cast brings together some of the world’s most talented actors from all genres of the big screen, silver screen and theatre, including:

John Cleese as your trusty butler and confidant, JasperSir Ben Kingsley as the leader of the mountain dwellers, SabineSimon Pegg as attention-seeking soldier Benn Finn who is looking for actionMichael Fassbender as the evil King Logan whom your “Fable III” hero will lead a revolution againstZoĆ« Wannamaker returns as Theresa. Medal of Honor Enlists Award Winning Composer Ramin Djawadi

Electronic Arts today announced that composer Ramin Djawadi is creating a deep, emotional score for the modern combat first-person shooter, Medal of Honor. Known for his work on the Iron Man movie, the "Prison Break" television series and the remake of Clash of the Titans, Ramin Djawadi is bringing his unique style to the soundtrack for EA's intense, action-packed modern warfare game taking place in war-town Afghanistan. The Medal of Honor original game score is now available for online purchase at select digital service providers.

"The new version of a landmark game always requires a next-level soundtrack," said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing at EA. "But this 'reinvention' of Medal of Honor demanded a composer who could create an epic score that brings the game into a whole new era. The intuition and skill that makes Ramin Djawadi one of Hollywood's top young talents in film scoring is exemplified in Medal of Honor. This is an incredibly intense score, and we're tremendously proud to have him in the EA family."

For the first time in its 11-year history, Medal of Honor leaves the WWII theatre and enters the modern setting of war-torn Afghanistan. The game is told through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Medal of Honor introduces players to the Tier 1 Operator, an elite warrior and relatively unknown instrument of the U.S. Military that operates under the National Command Authority to take on missions no one else can handle. Composer Ramin Djawadi explains, "The fact that it is modern day with various locations asked for a completely different approach both stylistically and thematically. The score is very widespread from emotional orchestral to edgy modern action. Western and ethnic instruments are used to represent the different cultures."

"Designing a score that captures both the scalpel-like quite professionalism of the Tier 1 Operators and the sledge hammer action of big military has been a unique challenge. The music is designed to dynamically ebb and flow, complementing the big action sequences with thundering electric guitar and bass, and the quiet stealth with haunting strings and hymns. It is like a Hollywood action movie score on steroids," said Djawadi.
