Thor The Game Announced

SEGA has just announced that Thor, the Marvel comic character, will be starring in his very own videogame this year. Thor: The Video Game will appear on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, and DS.

We do not have much information yet but so far we know that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games will be a third-person action gameplay in which the Norse God must save the city of Asgard with his legendary hammer. Odds are this game will coincide with Thor's movie currently in production.

IGN Interviews Dungeon Siege III Dev

IGN landed a pretty good interview with Rich Taylor, Project Director on Dungeon Siege III to go over some details. Check it out...

IGN: Based on what we've seen, it seems like a primary focus of this game is its multiplayer. We know players can drop in and out by grabbing a controller while another's playing, but can you describe specifically how that system works, as well as what kinds of other options there are for play with multiple people, and if you can play locally with others as well as online?

Rich Taylor: While multiplayer is a big focus, Dungeon Siege III is designed to be a great single player game as well. As far as how the multiplayer side of the experience will play out, we will be discussing that in more detail at a later time.

Capcom Announces Street Fighter X Tekken

Capcom today announced that Street Fighter X Tekken is in development the Xbox 360. The title will make history as fighters from these two bastions of the fighting genre come together for the very first time.

Utilizing the same technology that powered Street Fighter IV & Super Street Fighter IV, Tekken characters such as Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams will make the transition into the Street Fighter universe having been re-imagined using the much loved art style of these seminal titles; while retaining their unique characteristics and signature moves as they go head to head with classic brawlers from the Street Fighter franchise in what promises to be the ultimate match up.

As in Street Fighter IV, gameplay will feature fully real 3D character models battling for domination in both new and familiar highly detailed 2D environments that are brought to life with engaging animations. In addition to modes such as Versus and Training that will feature new enhancements to make the fighting experience more in-depth and enjoyable, Street Fighter X Tekken will include Tag Team combat where players select two fighters to deliver knockout assist attacks and special combos.

The announcement, which took place at Comic-Con in San Diego in front of thousands of Street Fighter fans, was made by the Producer of Street Fighter X Tekken, Yoshinori Ono, and Tekken series Director, Katsuhiro Harada. Commenting on the origins of this project Yoshinori Ono said: “This is history we're making. Two fighting games that have rivaled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn't just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I'm going to give it my all.”

Keeping with the series’ tradition, Clayton Carmine will be introduced in the trilogy’s final chapter, and like Anthony and Ben, the newest rookie brother runs the high risk of meeting an early death. However, unlike in the previous games, the Xbox community will choose whether Carmine lives or dies by purchasing special “Gears of War 3” avatar gear on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Starting July 29 two new avatar t-shirts will be available on the Avatar Marketplace on Xbox LIVE – one shirt reads “Save Carmine” and the other reads “Carmine Must Die.” By purchasing the “Save Carmine” shirt, you’re casting your vote to let Carmine live in “Gears of War 3.” Conversely, purchasing the “Carmine Must Die” shirt means you want to see Clayton follow in the fate of his brothers.

Child’s Play is a community-based games industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children around the world. Through their network of more than 60 hospitals and through the generosity of their community of donors, Child’s Play raises millions of dollars each year to donate games, consoles and toys to sick children. The proceeds from the sales of the “Save Carmine” and “Carmine Must Die” avatar gear and limited edition NECA t-shirts will go to Child’s Play, so cast your vote, donate to charity, and get cool “Gears of War” gear! Fans can get up to date information about the fate of Clayton Carmine by visiting www.gearsofwar.com.

Published by Microsoft Game Studios and developed by Epic Games, the “Gears of War” franchise has won over 30 “Game of the Year” awards, sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and redefined the third-person shooter genre for this console generation. The “Gears of War” series is exclusive to Xbox 360 and its riveting multiplayer action makes it one of the most popular titles on Xbox LIVE. Exclusive Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock Partnership with Rush

Rush, one of the most influential rock bands in history, have joined together with Activision Publishing, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock to bring their seven-part suite from their classic 2112 album to the game's all-new, story-based Quest Mode this September. For the first time ever, Guitar Hero(R) fans will embark on an epic voyage playing as eight Guitar Hero characters that transform into rock warriors who must join together to use their unique, game-changing powers to help the Demi-God of Rock take down "The Beast" to save rock.

"The music, the story and the journey of 2112 lends itself perfectly to the quest in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock," said Geddy Lee of Rush. "In our story, the caves of 2112 are where our hero finds the lost guitar and this rediscovery of music is much like the Guitar Hero warriors' journey to find the Demi-God of Rock's Legendary guitar, which has been trapped in a cavern."

"I love the idea of Guitar Hero; they have combined two great things - music and fun," said Alex Lifeson of Rush. "I think it's a great way to introduce people of all ages to music of various styles by all kinds of different bands, while providing a launching pad for kids who want to get into playing music."

Within the narrative-driven journey, Rush and Guitar Hero fans alike will experience 2112 in a totally new and authentic way while traversing the exclusive three-part 2112 Rush-inspired venue and playing their way through the 20 minute, seven-part suite. Additionally, each song transition will feature band members narrating liner notes from the 2112 album. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will include:

"2112 Pt. 1 - Overture"
"2112 Pt. 2 - The Temples Of Syrinx"
 "2112 Pt. 3 - Discovery"
 "2112 Pt. 4 - Presentation"
 "2112 Pt. 5 - Oracle: The Dream"
 "2112 Pt. 6 - Soliloquy"
 "2112 Pt. 7 - Grand Finale"

"Our collaborations with legendary artists and bands, like Rush, are key to creating an original rock experience and have helped drive Guitar Hero's success," said David Haddad, Chief Operating Officer, Guitar Hero. "The journey that Rush's 2112 seven-part suite takes fans on fits flawlessly within the story Neversoft has expertly created for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and perfectly adds to the authenticity of the game."

In Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, join with friends on an epic rock journey to save rock n' roll. Featuring the most music ever in a Guitar Hero game with an impressive 90+ track set list and a host of all-new gameplay features, living room legends and their friends can strum, drum and wail in the most immersive music videogame experience to date. Delivering the quintessential rock music collection that focuses on guitar shredding hits from bands such as Black Sabbath, Slipknot and Megadeth and larger-than-life band anthems from Queen, Muse and KISS, players can unleash more rewards and unlockable content than ever before in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock's Quest Mode, the franchise's first ever story-based mode, and Quickplay+, which invites challenge-starved fanatics to test their rock skills. Running on the powerful Guitar Hero engine that has been expanded and refined and with encores from the critically-acclaimed and fan favorite gameplay features that made Guitar Hero one of the most popular franchises of all-time - such as Party Play, Competitive modes and any combination of up to four instruments - the game offers a complete interactive and connected experience bringing friends and foes to the stage in the ultimate rock music experience.

PC Accuracy Killed Cross Platform Plans For Live

Xbox Live has had a rocky history with projects being announced and then never quite getting off the ground. From the recent announcement of the cancellation of 1 Vs 100 to the proposed cross-platform gameplay offered in ShadowRun things never seem to materialize. It is not a lack of initiative or technical wizardry that killed cross-platform gameplay but the very platforms themselves.

Microsoft experimented with cross-platform online play well after ShadowRun according to Voodoo PC founder Rahul Sood. Prospective titles would have included the Gears of War series among others. The reason development stopped was the improved accuracy that the combination of a keyboard and mouse provided. Even the most skilled console veterans could not keep up with PC players.

It is sad that Microsoft could not get cross-platform gameplay working. Wouldn't it have been neat to try out Halo 3 mutliplayer on the PC? The Xbox 360 is an excellent console but perhaps Microsoft is ignoring the PC market as a whole by not releasing major releases on Windows.

Red Faction Gets the (TV) Movie Treatment

In this era of crossovers and new partnerships arising across mediums in order to snag more attention, THQ has taken a big leap by partnering with SyFy in order to create a live-action Red Faction film called "Origins."

Who's involved in bringing this game world into the realm of film? First up the script comes from writer and producer Andrew Kreisberg, known for his work on Warehouse 13, Fringe, Vampire Diaries and Boston Legal , and the story originates with Paul DeMeo, THQ's Director of Fiction Development. There is no word yet on a director.

The story is set in the time between Red Faction: Guerrilla and Red Faction: Armageddon .

Here's the official descriptions of the film's plot:
"Twenty-five years have passed since Alec Mason led the Martian Colonies to freedom…and ten years since vengeful enemies killed his wife, kidnapped his daughter Lyra, and left a broken hero in their wake.

Jake Mason, Alec’s last surviving son and a ranger in the Red Faction Militia, had never abandoned hope that somewhere in the raw outlands of Mars, his sister was still alive. Now, just as a powerful new enemy swarms across the planet, he’s found her, only to learn that his long lost sister is one of them…a cold-blooded soldier sworn to destroy the Red Faction and conquer the planet in the name of a madman.

Jake must now battle the relentless regime and somehow reunite a family torn apart by war."The two-hour film hits SyFy next March, just in time for the new Red Faction game.

New Infinity Ward Lawsuit Details

An amended complaint filed on Thursday by the Infinity Ward Employee Group has offered up new, alleged details from the ongoing legal battle between the studio and publisher Activision.

Before and after Activision fired studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella in March, the complaint alleges Activision forced the Infinity Ward employees to "submit to secret interrogations" and that the publisher created a "police state" - like atmosphere and "hostile work environment" at the studio.

In a later meeting with the studio's employees, CEO Bobby Kotick also allegedly promised the group they would be paid their bonuses from Modern Warfare 2 in full. Kotick said "nothing will change" regarding bonus compensation, according to the complaint. But that apparently did not go as planned.

The complaint notes that "despite Bobby Kotick's oral statements to the employees of Infinity Ward to the contrary, Activision made a tactical and calculated decision to withhold $54 million of earned and vested bonus compensation from the Infinity Ward employees."

"At the same time, Activision breached its prior written promise that Modern Warfare 3 would not be the next game to be developed, produced, and delivered by Infinity Ward."

Later in March, Infinity Ward employees began to complain to Activision management about not receiving their bonuses. In an April meeting with Activision COO Thomas Tippl, he allegedly told the employees who kept demanding the bonuses to be paid to "get over it."

The complaint also alleges the reason Activision withheld the remaining $54 million owed was because they were afraid that employees would leave the studio and that Activision "would not be able to get Modern Warfare 3 to market by November 2011."

The Infinity Ward Employee Group notes they would not have left the studio had Activision, among other things, not fired Jason West and Vince Zampella, been paid their bonuses in full, and had been told the truth about the next game the studio was to develop after Modern Warfare 2.

A copy of the amended complaint can be viewed here.

New Fable III Features Detailed

Fable III's new leveling system has been shown in full as Peter Molyneux showed off an interesting new approach for Lionhead's forthcoming adventure game.

As part of a demo of the game at Brighton's Develop conference, Molyneux showed a system that's a manifestation of his desire to completely remove menus and lists from the Fable universe.

Like The Sanctuary – Fable III's answer to the pause menu – the leveling up system is an in-game area, this time a path shrouded in mist. Different gates block the way to a castle in the distance, and as each one is unlocked it progresses player towards the castle.

Guild Seals, or followers as they've been previously called, are the game's unified XP system, earned through various in-game antics. They're used to unlock each gate, while chests between each gate unlock various abilities.

"I love the visual metaphor of travelling along the road," said Molyneux, "I love giving people the opportunity to choose their game experience."

Leveling up of weapons & gauntlets is also done within this area.

Mega Man Universe Just Announced

Good new Mega Man fans! Capcom has just announced Mega Man Universe, a brand spankin' new chapter in the Mega Man franchise. The good news is the series creator Kenji Inafune is heading up the development of the new game.

"We are thrilled to finally be able to announce Mega Man Universe," said Inafune. "This game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be. When fans finally get to see it, I believe they'll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true."

Though details about the new game are very sparse right now. Capcom did hint in the announcement that this won't be yet another standard 8-bit title. Capcom dropped some phrases such as: "revolutionary take," "new chapter in classic gaming," and "imagination is the star of the game." They ended the announcement by saying: "Its official: classic gaming will never be same again."

Win Yourself a Copy of Chime on XBLA

Last week Microsoft threw Chime into their Critic's Choice deal of the week sale.

To celebrate (this week) Team Xbox and OneBigGame are giving away 10 copies of the game to readers here at the site!

Before we get down to the how to, let's talk about the game a little bit. Here's the official description of how the game works:

"A creative twist on both music and block puzzle games, Chime tasks players with covering the playing field with irregular shapes, each connected to a sound effect from the background music track, to form rectangular blocks, called quads. Gamers control a single shape at a time, and can move, rotate, and then place it on the grid. A beatline moves across the grid in time with the music, and sets off events when it hits placed shapes. Quads are created by placing shapes in solid blocks of 3x3 or more. When a quad is completed and the beat line hits, different musical samples are triggered dependent on its shape. The size of the quad denotes the score, and multipliers can be achieved by having several quads on the screen at once. Chime’s innovative game mechanics enables players to create a unique remix of each song every time they play a level as the building of larger quads unlock more elements of the underlying song. Working their way to 100 percent coverage of the grid, players will unlock the song in full."

So not only does it feature a ton of unique gameplay, but OneBigGame announced last week that they'd donate ALL the net proceeds to their "charity partners Save the Children and Starlight Children’s Foundation." During regular weeks OneBigGame aims to donate 80 percent of their normal proceeds to the same charities.

Not bad at all. But now we'd like to give away 10 additional copies to you loyal TXB-ites. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment in the section below saying you'd like to partake. We'll then run all the names through a random drawing generator and send you out the codes!

Simple enough, right? Now get to commenting!

Please note, we're closing off entries at MIDNIGHT Pacific Time on Sunday, July 11th.

Violent Game Law 'Clearly Unconstitutional'

The Entertainment Software Association, a U.S. trade association that owns and operates the ESRB and E3, has responded to California's recently submitted argument to pass a law that would prohibit the sale of violent videogames to minors.

Michael Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA, issued a brief statement saying the proposed law is "clearly unconstitutional" and that the association will present its argument to the Supreme Court.

"Computer and video games are First Amendment protected speech. There is an unbroken chain of more than a dozen previous court rulings agreeing," Gallagher said. "Courts across the country recognize that computer and video games, like other protected expression such as movies, books, and music, have an artistic viewpoint, and use sounds and images to create an experience and immerse the player in art."

"That is why other courts have unanimously affirmed that video games are entitled to the same constitutional protection as movies, music, books, and other forms of art," he added.

"California's law is no different than others before it. It is clearly unconstitutional under First Amendment principles. We look forward to presenting our arguments in the Supreme Court of the United States and vigorously defending the works of our industry's creators, storytellers and innovators."

The court hearing is scheduled to take place later this fall.

Yesterday's announcement about Dragon Age 2 wasn't a big surprise as it's been hinted at for quite a while, but there are a few unique elements to the game that make it quite exciting (or less exciting depending on what you liked about the first one).

First off, you play as a single character, "Hawke," rather than the multiple origins of the original. Hawke is chosen much like Commander Shephard in the Mass Effect series, in such that they can be male or female.

It's also claiming "updated graphics" and has "updated battle mechanics." While we don't quite know what those mean yet, they should add a new level to the sequel.

And here's what the box is going to look like:

More About Dragon Age 2

We'll keep an eye out for the first screenshots and gameplay videos, as I'm curious to see the changes in action.

Rumor Slim Arcade Unit Being Revealed In August?

Microsoft announced last month that they were looking in to releasing an arcade version of the Xbox 360 slim. At that time we didn’t have many details about the system but thanks to Amazon.de we have some more information about the system.

The system has an expected release date of August 20th 2010, which is right around the time the videogame world will be paying attention to Leipzig Gamescom. The console apparently comes packed with 4 gigs of internal flash memory and will retail for $199 USD/149 Euros.

Developed by Krome Studios, Blade Kitten brings the world of bounty hunter Kit Ballard to life and will launch this September on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360..

“We are pleased to announce the upcoming launch of Blade Kitten for Xbox LIVE Arcade, said John Burns, Vice President and General Manager for Atari Europe. “With its colorful anime inspired universe, simple pick up and play arcade action and intuitive scramble style exploration Blade Kitten is destined to become one of the hot digital releases of 2010”

Blade Kitten marks the latest creation by Mr. Stamatiadis, the force behind the multi-million selling TY the Tasmanian Tiger series. In Blade Kitten, a prequel to the comics set three years prior; players are invited into the world of Hollow Wish where they take on the role of Kit Ballard, one of the best bounty hunters in the business. With her pink hair and tail, Kit is part cat, part girl - and fully lethal. As one of the last of her species, Kit commands her unique “Darque Blade” hovering sword to defeat enemies. Fable III To Be Released Episodically

Lionhead Studios head Peter Molyneux recently revealed that Fable III will be available via episodic chapters downloadable on the Live Marketplace shortly after launch.

This is similar to the release of Fable II in episodic form last fall. It was available in five parts for $12 a piece (900 MS points). Lion head is expecting to sell 5 million copies of Fable III upon release – almost double the sales number of Fable II!

"Soon after the retail launch we're doing episodic. We break it down in chapters. We give away the first chapter entirely free, the first hour. When you reach a certain point in the game it says 'thank you for playing the pilot of Fable III, do you want to spend an extra 2-5 or whatever dollars to buy the next episode, or buy the whole lot?' Press 'yes' and you will immediately continue playing" -Peter Molyneux

Left 4 Dead 2 Drops to $19.90

We're not all about sales and deals here at Team Xbox, but when a particularly good discount appears in my inbox, you better believe I'm going to pass the news along.

As of 11pm Pacific on July 7th, GoGamer's "48 Hour Madness" sale includes a copy of Left 4 Dead 2 for our beloved Xbox 360 for the simple price of $19.90. While most stores aren't selling it for the full price of $59.99 anymore (Amazon has it listed at $34.44), I think that $19.90 is still a good bargain.

The deal was still going as I went to bed, so I apologize if it's canceled or sold out by the time the morning rolls around.

Good luck snaggin' a copy!

Kinect Multiplayer Support Called In To Question

Over the weekend a ‘technical specifications’ sheet available at Play.com had the internet speculating about the number of simultaneous players that the Kinect supports. According to the page the Kinect supports up to 8 players but only 2 ‘active players’. According to the information page the Kinect can detect 20 joints on up to 2 players simultaneously. This implies that games that use ‘up to 8 players’ will only use partial movements and not the full body.

Videos showcased at the E3 expo showed more than two players using Kinect with such full body motions as jumping and hand movements. Microsoft had no statement regarding these speculations. As more information becomes available we will have it here at Teamxbox.com

According to IGN, THQ has confirmed the sequel to Metro 2033 is currently being developed. They didn't offer much details on the project but did offer a few nuggets of intel. Core games VP, Danny Bilson stated to CVG that the sequel is one of four titles planned to be in 3D.

"4A Games are indeed working on a new Metro title, although we're still very early in pre-production," a representative told us. "Working title is 'Metro 2034' but don't expect a straight sequel to Metro 2033 or even parallels with Glukhovsky's book"

Hulu Plus Confirmed for Xbox Live

Hulu has just outlined their new "Plus" service that retails for $9.99 a month.

While they didn't specifically mention Xbox in their blog, Major Nelson took things a step further and confirmed the development of Hulu Plus for Xbox Live.

Microsoft is insisting the extra development time will be worth it: "We’re working hard on creating customized experience for Xbox LIVE members, which means that Hulu Plus will be coming to Xbox 360 in early 2011. We are taking the time to ensure that the Hulu Plus experience for Xbox 360 is the best on TV and like our other entertainment experiences it will not be a port, but rather a custom experience that leverages the Xbox LIVE community features."

Good to hear that it will be a streamlined service, though it'd be nice to see it hitting our dashboards sooner than next year.

What do you guys think of the extra subscription fee? Personally, I love the streaming Netflix so this might be an additional subscription that's worth the price. We'll have to see.
