The Games of July 2010

The first true month of summer is here and there is a new release for every type of gamer out there. This month sees the release of Crackdown 2 for action fans, NCAA 11 for football junkies and there is also a few treats for RPG gamers and fighting fanatics. Join us as we run down all the major new releases and downloadable titles to be released over the next 30 days.

Crackdown 2
Developer: Ruffian Games
Publisher: Microsoft Games Studio
Release Date: July 6, 2010

What is it?

Crackdown 2 is a sequel to 2007’s open world super cop extravaganza Crackdown. Developer Ruffian Games are looking to capitalize on the open world model used in the original game but adding a new depth of customization and item collection. Players upgrade various skills such as strength, jumping and driving enabling them to lift dumpsters and cars as well as jump buildings in a single bound.

Players won’t just contend with gang members and crime bosses this time around. The story of Crackdown 2 takes place ten years after the first game where a mutation has befallen the populous of Pacific City. Players will have to deal with not only these mutated agents/citizens but also various terrorist groups within Pacific City.

NCAA Football 11
Developer: EA Tiburon
Publisher: EA Sports
Release Date: July 13, 2010

What is it?

EA Sports continues its popular college football series with this entry for 2010. EA Tiburon are introducing a number of new features for this season including a web based story generator for dyanasty mode, custom playbooks and an improved lighting engine. Players will also be able to share their achievements in the online dynasty mode with their friends. This new social networking aspect could bring football fans from all across the world together.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift
Developer: ARC System Works
Publisher: Aksys Games
Release Date: July 20, 2010

What is it?

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift is a substantial update to the excellent 2D fighter released for home consoles last year. Arc System Works has made many gameplay alterations, 2 new characters and an all new story line that takes place after the first entry in the series. Arc has also included the Legion and training modes from the PSP version in this console release.

What is it?

DeathSpank is an action RPG developed by long time game developer/designer Ron Gilbert. Players use to action RPGs similar to Diablo should feel right at home. Attacks are assigned to the face buttons while healing items and status effects are assigned to the dpad. Players will take on quests, various levels of monsters and other mythical beings during their quest for the ‘artifact’.
