Blacklight Tango Down Update

UTVIgnition Entertainment today released an XBLA update for Blacklight: Tango Down. The patch adds several new features and addresses spawn issues, round times, matchmaking and several other issues as detailed in the attached list.

In addition, the update also resets the time limit for the trial version of the game, allowing everyone to experience all the new features for themselves, including players who previously downloaded the trial version. The update goes live today for XBLA and PC users, and will be included in the PlayStation Network release set to launch within the next few weeks. The PC update also includes the addition of Steam updates for players with Steam accounts.

“The entire team took fan feedback and critique to heart and constructed the update to specifically address their concerns,” said Jared Gerritzen, Lead Designer at Zombie Studios. “As one of the summer’s top XBLA downloads, we’re really happy with the way fans have been enjoying the game, and we’ll continue to make sure players are having the best online experience possible.”

“What we have always tried to do from the outset with Tango Down is rewrite the rules for DLG’s” added Marcus Beer, PR Director for UTV Ignition Entertainment. “By listening to player feedback and releasing this second free update, we are showing our commitment to gamers that we will continue to support and improve the game, which is not something that often happens with downloadable games.”

Players who were once frustrated by spawn campers will find relief as the update includes an increased spawn invincibility time to prevent enemies from making easy kills. Additionally, the update improves matchmaking times as it brings gamers into the action faster than ever before. These, in addition to dozens of additional fixes, give fans a deeper, richer and more streamlined experience with the summer’s best-selling XBLA shooter which sold over 100,000 copies in its first 3 weeks on release.

Sega Confirms Vanquish

SEGA Europe Ltd. and SEGA of America, Inc. today announced that the demo for VANQUISH will be available exclusively for download from Xbox LIVE Marketplace for the Xbox 360 in North America on 31st August, across Europe on 1st September and Australia on 2nd September.

The VANQUISH Official Demo: Velocity Attack, allows players to choose one level from the two levels of difficulty (Casual or Normal) available. Taking on the role of Sam, a United States government agent kitted out with a futuristic ARS battle suit, players are vying for ownership of the planet’s remaining energy resources against Russia on board a huge space station. On entering the third port lobby of the space station, numerous enemy robots are being brought in by dropships. Players have an array of weaponry and upgrades at their disposal, as well as the ability to hijack “Walkers”, or use the suits unique Boost and AR mode to take down the robots. The demo climaxes with the formidable boss, Argus which you will need to use all your skills acquired throughout the demo to defeat.

Halo Reach Leaked

It seems that the secrets of Halo: Reach are being revealed early due to a recent leak on Xbox Live. Microsoft recently posted an early copy of Halo: Reach for industry reviewers on a hidden section of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Despite costing 99,999 MS Points ($1200 USD) on the marketplace hackers were able to overcome this limit and download the game’s code. From there they were able to remove the restrictions placed on the games files and make it playable on modified consoles.

Microsoft has stated that they are investigating this security hole and will be working to patch it. Early leaks are nothing new for the Halo franchise. Halo 2 was leaked four weeks before its release in 2004 thanks to employees at a manufacturing plant. Halo 3: ODST was also sold several weeks before its street date in Europe.

Halo fans who wish to avoid leaked spoilers and screenshots may want to avoid popular game forums and video streaming sites where such secrets may be posted. The ending to Halo 3 was famously posted weeks before the games release which angered many fans.

Just like anyone with a brain thought, Microsoft is on the prowl for users playing illegal copies of Halo: Reach, which leaked all over the web last weekend. Microsoft wants to remind everyone that downloading leaked versions will result in a ban from Xbox Live and zap the console's warranty. Here is what they had to say to IGN:

"We are aggressively pursuing the violators. Microsoft's commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the 25 million members of the Xbox Live community remains a top priority. All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and modifying their Xbox 360 console violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live."

Voice Control Coming to Kinect Launch

Microsoft has confirmed to IGN that voice control for Kinect will be part of the launch. This clarifies earlier rumors of it being cut from launch. In an statement given to IGN, Microsoft had this to say:

"Voice control is an exciting part of the Kinect for Xbox 360 controller-free experience and we can confirm that it will be available at launch in November 2010".

"Only on Xbox 360 will you be able to navigate the Kinect Hub using your voice to control your movies, TV shows and music. We do not have additional details to share about local voice availability at this time."

When the party starts on 22nd October, budding beat chemists, singing sensations and all of their friends will experience over 100 of the biggest tracks, remixed exclusively for DJ Hero 2, including Eminem’s “Not Afraid,” Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” David Guetta’s “Memories” feat. GamesCom '10 Street Fighter X Tekken Gameplay

Capcom showed off a one round battle between Ryu and Kazuya to promote the upcoming Street fighter X Tekken. The game is running off of the Street Fighter 4 engine and maintains the same over the top battles on a 2D plane. The game boasts a new feature to the Street Fighter 4 formula – partner assists similar to those found in previous “Vs.” series games such as Marvel Vs Capcom 2.

A companion title Tekken X Street Fighter is in development at Namco Studios but is a lot earlier in development. That game will hit store shelves sometime after Street Fighter X Tekken is released in 2011.

Red Faction Battlegrounds Announced

Speaking to Gamasutra today at the Game Developers Conference in Europe, THQ confirmed the existence of a new Red Faction game for XBLA and the PlayStation Network.

The game came up in an interview with Don Whiteford, the company's digital creative director who used to run Juice Games. This studio formerly worked on large scale projects but has been scaled back and renamed THQ Digital Warrington.

The studio is currently working on three projects, one of which is Red Faction: Battlegrounds which is described as a top-down car, mech, and rover combat title. The game will support up to four players online and will unlock new items in the upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon.

Rumor Gearbox Software Finishing Duke Nukem Forever

The game that never dies is making headlines over a year after 3D realms closure in May 2009. According to Kotaku.com development of the long awaited title has been moved to Gearbox Software – the developers of Borderlands. Gearbox also handled the port of Halo: CE to Windows PC in 2003. They are no strangers to the First Person Shooter Genre.

Take Two Interactive confirmed that they still hold the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever after the settlement of their lawsuit with 3D Realms earlier this year. Both the presidents of Gearbox Software and 3D realms declined to comment to various media outlets.

2K Games and Gearbox Software announced today that Borderlands fans can return to Pandora’s inhospitable environment to enjoy a brand-new destructive downloadable adventure in Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution. The storm is rising in the east with confirmation today from NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe S.A.S. of the European Collector's Edition of NARUTO Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 for the Xbox 360. Solar Struggle Comes to Xbox Live Indie Games

After building anticipation for two weeks, redspotgames and Z-Software disclose the final details of Solar Struggle. The game will be released for the Xbox Live Indie Games platform and will be available in August 2010. The price will be only 400 Microsoft Points.

As mentioned in the press release two weeks ago, Solar Struggle will set new quality standards on the platform and explore far-ranging possibilities. "This announcement hasn't been just empty promises," says Z-Software's CEO Andreas Heldt, "for example, the graphical details will be much higher than most Xbox Live Indie Games. Also, you won't find as powerful a 3D engine among other Indie Games. The story is well thought out, includes plot twists and will be filled with cut scenes and voices from famous voice actors." David Michael Williamson, star of the English version, has made a name for himself as screenwriter and actor in movies like 'Over My Dead Body'. Voice talents like Willi Röbke, well-known as the German voice for characters in TV series like 'The Simpsons', 'Futurama', and 'The Super Mario Bros. Super Show' as been hired as well, as have many other talented actors.

Max Scharl, CEO of redspotgames, adds: "Within the last few years there has been a rise in quality among the games of Xbox Live Arcade. We're trying something similar with Solar Struggle for Xbox Live Arcade. We're going to test how a highquality title will be received on this network and see whether it opens up new possibilities." Not long ago a game like Solar Struggle would have been released as a Arcade Game and not among the Indie Games. The Munich-based publisher redspotgames also contributed to this production with voice recordings and other support. The game has been in development since the end of 2008 and has had the largest budget of all known Xbox Live Indie Games.

The player can get into the act with three different factions: The Consortium, the Outlaws and the Military. There are 9 different ships available which can be upgraded and expanded in any order through achievements from 11 missions. Among them are the ship classes Count, Interceptor and Bomber. Beside them there will be Destroyers and Battleships in the game who need to be protected or destroyed.

For those following,Hocking has been with Ubisoft for nine years heading up the development of such games as Far Cry 2, Splinter Cell, and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Namco Bandai today announced Ace Combat Assault Horizon for Xbox 360 and is being developed by their internally-owned Project Aces. Ace Combat Assault Horizon is set for release in 2011.

Revealing how players will become immersed in the world’s most glamorous sport, the final F1 2010 developer diary, released today by Codemasters showcases how the team’s mantra of ‘be the driver, live the life’ has been transformed into an innovative career mode that takes players closer to the sport than ever before. As any F1 fan knows, there is more to being a FORMULA ONE driver than being the fastest person on the track. To reflect this everything in F1 2010 is experienced from the driver’s perspective, from the paddock to post-race press conference and the team garage. Players will become immersed in the building excitement and drama of a race weekend as they interact with rival drivers, team members, fans and the press which all affect the way the gamer’s career plays out. Drivers can use the media to spur the team on or to criticize the lack of car development and even to pressure rivals in the hope they fold during the Championship run-in.

To deliver the authentic feel of a GRAND PRIXTM event, F1 2010 recreates the hustle and bustle of the garage and paddock, complete with motion captured pit crew, race engineers and pit girls. As a race weekend unfolds, the amount of attention the player receives intensifies according to their performance on the circuit. Expectations vary from team to team, and the driver is always under scrutiny from their teammates and the media as in real life.

In the video, former FORMULA ONE driver Anthony Davidson, Technical Consultant on F1 2010, explains the unique pressures that FORMULA ONE drivers must perform under, depending on team goals and the intense rivalries that develop on the circuit, as reflected in the game. “The expectations for the driver playing the game are the same as in real life given your machinery,” said Davidson. “At the end of the day, the teammate that you have is the only direct competition you’ll have through the whole season. The Return of Master Chief

It seem Master Chief will indeed be making a return to Halo at some point in the future. Frank O'Connor assured a crowd at Comic-Con that Chief's story wasn't finished yet.

When we left Chief at the end of Halo 3, he told Cortana, "Wake me when you need me" and went into cryosleep. In Halo 3's Legendary ending, we saw Master Chief's ship reach a mysterious planet (and O'Connor calls it a "planet" and not a ship). So what comes next?

"We'd have to be the world's biggest a**holes not to follow through," O'Connor said. "We certainly haven't seen the last of Master Chief."

Protector Trials Now Available for Bioshock 2

2K Games has announced that Bioshock 2 's new swarm mode pack called "Protector Trials" in which you must fight off hoards of Splicers to protect your Little Sisters is now available.

With six new maps, three difficulty levels, and a bunch of new collectibles, it might just be the right DLC for the Big Daddy enthusiast. Additionally, there are also seven new achievements.

You can snag the pack in the Marketplace for 400 Microsoft Points ($5). But as of this posting, I checked and did not see the download available just yet.

ZSoftware Releases Trailer of "Solar Struggle"

Since two years, there is a lot of gossip in the independent game-scene about "Solar Struggle". It was in 2008, when the game appeared on different important game-conventions and business-events for the first time. "Solar Struggle" was meant to be a very promising title, but after some early prototypes, nothing was heard again about this ambitious shooter. Until today: Now the game developing team Z-Software from Dortmund/Germany has announced, that they purchased all the copyrights on the game and will now release it on Xbox360 - together with the publisher redspotgames from Munich.

The original 2D-spaceshooter-concept has been retained, but the game's graphics and the game-features have been changed a lot. Now with the first official trailer of "Solar Struggle" gamers get insight the gameplay and its challenging space-battles. The trailer will be today on the new published website of the game: www.solarstruggle.com.

"It's a game for hunters and collectors. Within eleven missions, you can achive 36 different awards and gain up to nine different types of spaceships", states Andreas Heldt, CEO of  Z-Software. He doesn't want to reveal too much details about the gameplay right now, "but we will regularly release new information about the story, new screenshots and some more videos of the game on www.solarstruggle.com", Andreas Heldt promises. But at this point, there are assured facts, that there will be – apart from the normal story-mode of the game – an alternative skirmish-mode. Whereabouts the player has to defend his spaceships against incoming waves of enemies. If the player succeeds, he gets new spaceships with different weapons as a reward.

"Solar Struggle" is expected to be released in August on the indie-channel of the Xbox360 market-place. The game is fully synchronized in English.

ComicCon 2010 Hideo Kojima Jumps In To Front Mission Evolved

Square Enix held an event at Comic-Con 2010 this evening featuring none other than gaming legend Hideo Kojima. Kojima-San was on hand to unveil a cross over between Kojima Productions and Square Enix in the form of Kojima Production decals for Front Mission Mechs. Hideo Kojima was also on hand to sign fan autographs after the new trailer was played.

Front Mission Evolved is the latest entry in the series however it departs from the regular Strategy RPG forum, instead opting for a more action focused third person prospective. The game is under develop at Double Helix games and will be released on September 14th, 2010.

New Screens from Bonk Brink of Extinction

XBLA is getting a new entry into the Bonk series this fall in the form of Bonk: Brink of Extinction . While this isn't new information, we do have some new screenshots that show off this old-school platformer that is aimed at releasing later this fall.

In this entry into the series, "Bonk can transform himself into eight different forms" and it also features drop-in, drop-out cooperative gameplay, both locally and online.

While we're still in the heat of the Summer of Arcade, it's nice to know that a few fun things are still coming down the barrel.

It could seem so if we believe the recent rumors. vg24/7 is doing the whispering, as well as claiming that Grand Theft Auto V's announcement is coming up fast – and quite possibly within the next few months as the report makes the surprising claim that it could be unveiled alongside the first public airing of Max Payne 3.
