Experience the Intensity of Musical Icons Metallica and Over 20 Other Rockin’ Bands in the Newest Entry to the Smash-Hit Franchise

Santa Monica, CA – March 31, 2009 – Having pioneered and expanded the heavy metal genre while gaining critical and popular success over the past 25 years, Metallica invites gamers to “Ride the Lightning” with them and over 20 other rocking artists in Activision Publishing, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) latest release – Guitar Hero® Metallica®. Enter the world of Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo and experience the intensity and skill of one of the greatest bands of all time. Shred on the guitar controller, rip on the drum kit controller and wail on the mic to over 45 explosive hits from both Metallica’s illustrious career and a variety of other legendary artists selected by the band, such as Alice In Chains, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Foo Fighters, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Queen.

"When Guitar Hero® came to us with the idea to do a game based on Metallica, we call this a no brainer and said yes very quickly," said Lars Ulrich, drummer for Metallica. "It seemed like the next step - a whole other platform for musicians to reach an audience. If we talk about this in five years, I think it will turn into an expected way to release music.”

"Guitar Hero is a great way for people to experience the music of a band. Not just Metallica, but many bands. It's almost educational in that sense, where people can learn about groups that range from Santana to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Journey," said bassist Robert Trujillo.

“We are extremely excited to partner with Metallica, bringing one of the world’s best-selling artists together with one of the biggest video game brands allowing consumers to connect with artists and their music in a uniquely interactive way,” said Will Kassoy, Head of Publishing for the Guitar Hero franchise. “Guitar Hero Metallica will appeal to a wide range of fans including those of Metallica, rock music, and Guitar Hero as well as introduce the franchise to new audiences.”

Guitar Hero Metallica allows fans to “spend an evening with Metallica,” and more than 20 other popular artists, while performing in venues reminiscent of their epic album covers, themes from their music and real world locales. Guitar Hero Metallica introduces an all-new Expert+ drum difficulty setting, featuring two bass drum kick pedals that offer an authentic Metallica experience with note-for-note tracking, and Metallifacts, which, after nailing a song, lets players enjoy a virtual concert filled with on-screen facts and trivia about the song being played.

The game is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB. For more information on Guitar Hero Metallica, please visit guitarherometallica.com.

The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version will be available in North America in April 2009. All versions of Guitar Hero Metallica will be available in Europe beginning May 2009.

Pirated Version of Resident Evil 5 Hits the Internet

With the Xbox 360 Resident Evil Limited Edition Console Bundle already spotted in different stores, it was a matter of time before someone would get his hands on Resident Evil 5 and make a copy of it. Today, a pirated version of Resident Evil 5 has been seen on file-sharing web sites and it is already available for download ahead of the game's launch on March 13th.

All big Xbox 360 titles such as Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto IV and Gears of War 2 have been pirated head of their release dates. This incident puts Resident Evil 5 together with the big ones. Not something Capcom would celebrate but still good news, sort of.

Rumor Starbreeze Working on New Syndicate Game

Sources have confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that Starbreeze Studios is working with Electronic Arts on a new title in the Syndicate series. Syndicate was an isometric real-time tactical game from Bullfrog Productions, a company co-founded by Peter Molyneux. Since the creator of Fable said he would like to do a next-gen online version of Syndicate, there have been plenty of rumors regarding a Syndicate remake.

The publishing rights for the Syndicate franchise belong to Electronic Arts and now that Starbreeze Studios, which developed of The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness, is working for EA on a new video game based on Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne series, this rumor seems pretty plausible to me.

The Godfather II Arrives in Stores

Electronic Arts and Paramount Digital Entertainment today announced today the arrival of The Godfather II videogame in stores now in North America. Below is the press release with the announcement:
EA MAKES AN OFFER THAT CAN’T BE REFUSED – THE GODFATHER II IS NOW IN STORES

Act Like a Mobster and Think Like a Don in the Game that Scores a Perfect 5 out of 5 in GamePro Magazine

Redwood City, CA – April 7, 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Paramount Digital Entertainment today announced the arrival of The Godfather® II videogame in stores now in North America for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and PC. The game will be available on April 10th in Europe.

The Godfather II is the sequel to the multi-platinum hit The Godfather The Game and has earned a perfect 5 out of 5 from GamePro magazine. GamePro calls the game “…criminally addictive” and “...the experience by which other crime games must be judged."

“The Godfather II offers players the ultimate fantasy of being a Don - of finally being the guy who calls all the shots for the family,” says Executive Producer Hunter Smith. “By combining the strategic gameplay of thinking like a Don through the 'Don's View', with our intense, visceral 'Blackhand' combat, we are focusing on the game at the root of the Godfather franchise, the game of organized crime. In essence, we're creating a new niche in the open-world genre and are really excited to see how players will build their families and customize their own experience in both the single player campaign and multiplayer battles.”

The Godfather II takes all of the drama, action and family values from the classic Godfather films and brings them into an interactive experience. This means that players have to build and invest in their family, manage their rackets, takeover crime rings and even reach out to corrupt officials – all through the revolutionary Don’s View. The Don’s View is a 3D display of the player’s criminal empire and family tree, offering a birds-eye view of all three cities to better coordinate their take-down strategies, plan hits on rival made men, attack enemy compounds, and much more. As a Don in the Corleone family, The Godfather II puts the control in the players’ hands and allows them to live in the Godfather universe while creating their own story of deception, betrayal, and conquest in a 1960’s organized crime world.

Developed at the EA Redwood Stores studio, The Godfather II is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and 18+ for PEGI. The Godfather II will be available for MSRP $59.99 on the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 and MSRP $49.99 on PC.

ACTIVISION’S GUITAR HERO® METALLICA® EXPLODES ONTO RETAIL SHELVES ACROSS NORTH AMERICA

ACTIVISION’S GUITAR HERO® METALLICA® EXPLODES ONTO RETAIL SHELVES ACROSS NORTH AMERICA
