Real Guitar, Fake Drum New Power Gig Information

Of all the things I'm scheduled to see at E3 next week, Power Gig: Rise of the Six-String looks like it has the most potential to embarrass me in front of a crowd of people. But then again, you've all probably seen that video of AJ Jacobs flailing about playing Natal.

But fans of the music genre can rejoice, Power Gig: Rise of the Six String is scheduled to hit store shelves this October and three new artists have signed on to lend songs to the game: Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews Band and Kid Rock.

Rolling Stone called Eric Clapton "one of the top five greatest guitarists of all time," so of course there's nothing to be intimidated about.

But they've also announced a new drum peripherla that isn't a drum, but a machine that can read where you're hitting in the air. You'll have to see the product images below to understand what I'm talking about, but it may be a cool alternative to the constantly breaking drums from those other guys. But then again, by drumming the air I can already picture drum sticks flying from one's hands on a particularly heavy solo.

Here's their official description of the drum controller: "The AirStrike drum controller consists of two drumsticks and a small unit that rests by the player’s feet that features unique technology that can differentiate the right drumstick from the left. It is this recognition that allows gamers to play the drums with much more true-to-life movement than the drum game peripherals already on the market. This new, engaging style of drum gameplay offers opportunity both for more creativity and more challenge. An added benefit to the design is that the AirStrike is more portable and convenient for gamers who don’t want to clutter their homes with large toy drum units. "From everything I've read about the game, it seems like a step in the right direction for fans of the music genre. Next week's playable version of the game will give the first hints of whether or not that's true.
