Sony's PlayStation 3 outsold both Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii during the past year, according to numbers dug out from Nintendo's latest financial results by IGN UK.
Hiding behind layers of charts and numbers is the news that Sony shifted 3 million PlayStation 3 units in Europe in the past year, whereas the Xbox 360 and Wii both managed just two million a piece -- Looking at the cumulative sales transition from the beginning of the year, the sales of PS3 are exceeding those of last year, but Wiis sales showed a year-on-year loss. Xbox 360 is selling well in the U.S., but the transition is nearly the same as last year in Europe. However, 2011 isn't over yet, and as IGN points out, the holiday period traditionally sees strong sales for all gaming hardware, including Xbox 360, which as a particularly strong line-up this time around.
