Activision Looking To Shred The Guitar Hero Brand?

The internet is alight with news that Activision has canceled the Guitar Hero series and has made massive layoffs at various development studios. The developers behind DJ Hero, Freestyle Games, has been hit with "massive layoffs" according to Eurogamer.

Freestyle Games isn't the only developer to be hit with layoffs. The company behind the Wii Versions of Guitar Hero, Vicarious Visions, were also hit with severe layoffs.

Originally the Guitar Hero franchise was expected to return with a new entry in the Fall of 2011. Activision Publishing's CEO has stated previously that the music genre does not carry the same draw that it did several years ago.
